    Introduction
    1.1 Preamble
    This document will guide you through the steps used to install and configure an environment for modelling and rendering three-dimensional graphics using Linux. In this section you will also find information in laymans terms about the required components and how they piece together. The installation section is purposely minimal; merely the quick and dirty steps needed to take to get up and running (if it doesn't work, more information is available). For those that want more information about the software components and what they do (in general), please continue reading. There are, at the minimum, three software packages you'll need in order to get up and running. These are as follows (in the order they are explained, not the order they are installed):
    • a graphics library;

    Modelling the DNA double helix using recycled materials
    Submitted by sis on Tue, 2006-07-25 20:32. Biology English Issue 2 Teaching activity
    Model of the DNA helix Dionisios Karounias Evanthia Papanikolaou and Athanasios Psarreas , from Greece, describe their innovative model of the DNA double helix – using empty bottles and cans! This project to construct a 3D model of a DNA molecule, using everyday materials, stimulated the students’ interest, encouraged teamwork, dexterity and the investigation of the properties of materials, and allowed the students to express their own opinions and solve problems. More specifically, students learned the basic structural elements of DNA and their 3D molecular organisation. Molecular structure of DNA The basic unit of DNA is the nucleotide, consisting of a phosphate group, a sugar molecule (deoxyribose) and one of four nucleobases (also known as bases): adenine (A), thymine (T), guanine (G) or cytosine (C).

    Chemical Applications of Molecular Modelling
    by Jonathan Goodman
    As computers become an important part of everyday life, molecular modelling is affecting all parts of chemistry, and is particularly useful in organic chemistry. But how does it work? How reliable is it? What are its limitations? Is it useful for normal chemists? In this book, published by the Royal Society of Chemistry Jonathan Goodman demystifies molecular modelling, enabling the non-specialist to appreciate the power, but also the limitations, of the computational tools available. Chemical Applications of Molecular Modelling provides a background to the methods used and describes how they have developed. It also provides many examples of ways that molecular modelling has been used to address chemical questions commonly asked by the experimental chemist, and includes many examples and case studies. It will be suitable as an undergraduate coursebook - putting normal chemistry course work into perspective with respect to modelling methods - as well as providing a useful reference for researchers. These pages are designed to support the printed book, particularly in presenting three-dimensional and interactive models and in offering opportunity for feedback.

    Guerrilla Threat Modelling (or 'Threat Modeling' if you're American)
    Note: In a lame attempt to get Google hits, I have replaced every second instance of the word "modelling" with the incorrectly spelt version "modeling" :-) No, I'm not talking about writing a threat model for a large, furry ape (although that would be fun); I'm talking about writing quick-and-dirty threat models when you don't have time to do the real thing. If you want to do threat modelling properly, I highly recommend you read Frank and Window's "Threat Modeling" [sic] book from Microsoft Press; but if you just need to get one done , you might not have the time or inclination for that. This should go hand-in-hand with my previous post What I'm going to recommend here is a process you can follow to quickly get a threat model done. It's also the basic process I tell teams inside Microsoft to follow when they bring me in on their threat model meetings, and it's written from the perspective of "These are the things

    The Rules
    (If you want to break a record that is published in a record book or governed by an international authorithy, there may be other or additional rules. See here for more information.)
    • The record is for the greatest amount of completed balloon sculptures to be made in 1 hour. All balloons must be blown up by mouth. No artificial means may be used (pumps, compressors etc.) All balloon shapes must touch the table in order to count. If the shapes pops or deflates before touching the table, it does not count. A list of at least 30 different shapes must be used. There can be no shapes made in sequence, (i.e. 5 dogs in a row does not count) The attempt must be rigidly timed and videotaped with a clock in the background. There should also be 4 personnel present, 2 counters, 1 judge and a timekeeper. No-else should be around the table. The final figure needs to be verified by the judge, then signed by all personnel present at the table.

    Eclipse Modeling Framework Project (EMF)
    The EMF project is a modeling framework and code generation facility for building tools and other applications based on a structured data model. From a model specification described in XMI, EMF provides tools and runtime support to produce a set of Java classes for the model, along with a set of adapter classes that enable viewing and command-based editing of the model, and a basic editor. EMF builds include XML Schema Infoset Model (XSD), now a component of the Model Development Tools (MDT) project, and an EMF-based implementation of Service Data Objects (SDO). XSD provides a model and API for manipulating components of an XML Schema, with access to the underlying DOM representation of the schema document. Other subprojects, such as Model Query Model Transaction , and Validation Framework , are available separately. The next release of EMF is scheduled for the end of June 2008, along with the rest of the Ganymede projects.

    Agile Modeling (AM) Home Page Effective Practices for Modeling and Documentation Home Search Models Style ... FAQ Agile Modeling (AM) is a practice-based methodology for effective modeling and documentation of software-based systems. Simply put, Agile Modeling (AM) is a collection of values principles , and practices for modeling software that can be applied on a software development project in an effective and light-weight manner. As you see in Figure 1 AM is meant to be tailored into other, full-fledged development methodologies such as XP or RUP , enabling you to develop a software process which truly meets your needs. The techniques of AM, in particular Agile Model Driven Development (AMDD) , the lifecycle for which is depicted in Figure 2, enable you to scale agile software development to very complex situations. Figure 1. AM enhances other software processes. Figure 2 . The AMDD lifecycle: Modeling activities throughout the lifecycle of a project.

    Getting Started with UML: The Unified Modeling Language - UML - is OMG's most-used specification, and the way the world models not only application structure, behavior, and architecture, but also business process and data structure. UML, along with the Meta Object Facility (MOF , also provides a key foundation for OMG's Model-Driven Architecture , which unifies every step of development and integration from business modeling, through architectural and application modeling, to development, deployment, maintenance, and evolution. OMG is a not-for-profit computer industry specifications consortium ; our members define and maintain the UML specification which we publish in the series of documents linked on this page for your free download. Software providers of every kind build tools that conform to these specifications. To model in UML, you'll have to obtain a compliant modeling tool from one of these providers and learn how to use it. The links at the bottom of this page will help you do that.
