Introduction
Bioselective detection

Biosensors are integrated into on-line analysis systems for registration of fermentation processes and selective detection of analytes of interest after chromatographic separation. Microdialysis probes are chosen as a basic tool for the collection of samples from a fermentor or bioreactor. The research is focussed on developing autoclavable microdialysis probes and on designing procedures for probe modification restricting adsorption of proteins on microdialysis membranes. The analysis lines for detection of analytes with amperometric biosensors after chromatographic separation are proposed and studied in situations when traditional detection principels (e.g., refractive index detection) do not provide sufficient sensitivity and selectivity.

Services - Food Analytical Chemistry
Analytical Chemistry can determine the presence of a known chemical in a food. The techniques of this science are used to identify the substances which may be present in a material and to determine the amounts of the identified substances. The nutritional value of food is determined by chemical analysis for major components such as protein, fat and carbohydrates and trace components such as vitamins, sugar profile, and minerals. Indeed even the calories in a food are calculated from its chemical analysis. Our highly trained scientists use an array of modern analytical equipment, such as Gas Chromatography (GC), GC Mass Spectrometer, High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometers (with or without graphite furnace).
Detailed Sugar Profiles are available using Liquid Chromatography with a Evaporative Light Scattering Detector (ELSD). This is currently the most accurate method available. If you need to know if pesticide residues, solvent residue or regulated additives are present and in which quantities, our analysts will find out.

ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY The Analytical Services Group has been providing analytical and problem solving services to industry for over 30 years. This group has an excellent reputation for high quality, reliable data in support of process development and manufacturing projects, as well as providing stand-alone analytical services to external pharmaceutical and natural products clients. Analytical Services from InB:Hauser can augment or replace client capabilities, allowing clients to reduce cost of equipment and personnel. General analytical services include development and validation of API purity, formulation potency, and content uniformity assays, impurity assays, drug substance and drug product stability studies including forced degradation studies. The Analytical Services Group provides routine and non-routine method development for impurities and adulterants in raw materials, drug substances, drug formulations and highly complex natural product matrices, and analytical CMC support for pre-clinical, clinical and commercial phases. We have developed expertise in the identification and measurement of compounds at very low concentration, which can be critical in the development and commercial production of many natural and synthetic pharmaceuticals.

Simon J. Garrett, Michigan State University
Solid surfaces are involved in heterogeneous catalysis, play important roles in electronic structure of semiconductor devices and are the sites of corrosion/oxidation reactions. Chemists and physicists seek to understand chemical composition of surfaces and the arrangement of atoms on surfaces. It is hoped that the reactivity and properties of the surface can be correlated with composition and atomic structure. This course is designed to meet increasing demand for analysis of solid surfaces.
