British Medieval Architecture
"The aim of this site is to aid research into British medieval architecture. Academic papers are offered alongside detailed information on the 'Devizes Heads'. We offer the viewer an insight into certain elements of British medieval architecture, mainly focusing on timber-frame construction methods. In particular, we will explore the medieval corbel heads from Devizes (Wiltshire), employing virtual technologies to explore the techniques of their manufacture. In addition to this, the broader field of carpentry joints, used by late medieval carpenters, will be examined virtually." URL: http://www.medievalarchitecture.net

We are on a hunt for supremely cool houses, from beach homes, country homes and city pads to holiday houses and ski retreats, we want to know where the coolest houses are for our upcoming book . We are looking for the most unique houses from Sao Paulo to Sydney. Slightly cool, standard-issue luxury won’t do it. The houses we want must think like Zaha Hadid who said “I like architecture to have someraw, vital, earthy quality.” So, if you are an architect of such a house, please submit your project for consideration or if you a aphotographer who has photographed such a house, please get in touch - This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

T he architectural richness of the Russian Empire reflected its long history and the cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity of its people. Prokudin-Gorskii photographed medieval churches and monasteries in European Russia and mosques and Islamic schools in the Caucasus and Central Asia. Many of the buildings he photographed were later destroyed by war or revolution, but others survived the Soviet period and have been restored. In addition to religious buildings, Prokudin-Gorskii photographed houses, country estates, factories, and barns. His skill as a photographer and the technical sophistication of his methods are apparent in the treatment of subjects ranging from church interiors to panoramic shots of cities.
Evening View of a Mosque
The Pamir Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop for an evening view of the Shakh-i Zindeh Mosque in Samarkand, a complex of graves and mortuary chapels built over many centuries for the women of the dynasties descended from Timur (Tamerlane, 1336-1405), the great medieval ruler of Central Asia.

Topics covered by this guide include architecture, building and construction, design, housing, planning, preservation, facility management, energy and the environment, and landscape architecture. Types of listings range from discussion groups to electronic publications to databases and of course a wide variety of web sites. This is a selective guide. AE3: Habitable Bridges
Using a bridge for something more than the movement of people and goods is not a new thing, as Italy's surviving Rialto Bridge (Venice) and Ponte Vecchio (Florence) attest. But their use for more than small kiosks, as habitable bridges, if you will, is a recent concept most overtly embraced by Steven Holl
Back in the late 70's and early 80's Holl created a couple speculative projects for the Bronx and Manhattan, published as

MILE HIGH ULTIMA TOWER: Vertical eco city works like a tree
by Mahesh Basantani volcano shaped, city-in-a-building towers , each promising to be the largest building in the world. First it was the wacky X-Seed design for Tokyo , and then even Norman Foster got into the game with his proposal for the massive Well now, architect Eugene Tsui is taking the gigantic volcano tower concept to a whole new eco level, by taking design inspiration from the natural world. His new design for the Ultima Tower – a 2-mile high Mt Doom-esque structure - borrows design principles from trees and other living ystem to reduce its energy footprint. We are always intrigued by architecture that uses biomimicry – the borrowing of principles from nature’s designs - and Tsui’s concept for this towering, ultra-dense urban development has certainly captured our attention with its thought-provoking design.
