Astronomy/Astrophysics on the Internet
Welcome to AstroWeb - a collection of pointers to astronomy-related information available on the Internet. The database is maintained by the AstroWeb Consortium , a collaboration involving 9 individuals at 7 institutions. In addition to classified lists of resource records, the Consortium also provides a utility to search the AstroWeb database: (WAIS search help) Most of the URLs in the database are tested three times a day to verify aliveness (see "AstroWeb Dead URLs" and "AstroWeb Unreliable URLs" ). The Consortium will be pleased to accept contributions of new resource records. You can use HTML forms to This NRAO version of AstroWeb is recomputed at about 09:10 UTC each day, if the master database has been changed. http://stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov/

Twin satellites are on their way to investigating the origin of special solar storms erupting from the sun. Known as "coronal mass ejections," these storms travel at nearly 1 million mph and can knock out power on the ground. The STEREO spacecraft are to be delivered to opposite sides of Earth. There STEREO will map the structure of the storms in 3-D as they leave the sun and flow around the planet. NASA Orbiter Reveals New Details of Mars, Young and Old

    Introduction
Since the first Egyptian farmers discovered the annual reappearence of Sirius just before dawn a few days before the yearly rising of the Nile, ancient civilizations around the Mediterranean have sought to explain the movements of the heavens as a sort of calendar to help guide them conduct earthly activities. Counting phases of the moon or observing the annual variations of daylength could, after many years' collection of observations, serve as vital indicators for planting and harvesting times, safe or

By Gary Agranat This is what remains of my astronomy tutoring website. I maintained it between 1997 and about 2004. Some pages were completely revised in late 2006. But I no longer keep the website up to date.
This website was originally created to function like a specialized library index for students researching astronomy topics. Back in 1997 I was very disappointed with the quality of many astronomy websites that were coming out. I also was disappointed that many students seemed to settle for low quality presentations. I could see for myself that, if one knew enough about what to look for, some very useful and interesting information at the frontier of the field could be found. I also could see that most professional scientists didn't have the time to develop good index websites themselves. And so I created this website. I was particularly keen to link to discussions by researchers in the field about their work.
There are some pages which I still would like to rewrite. Also, some of the older pages still have many links which are out of date. When I can give the time, I'll gradually take care of those pages.
