What Is a Bird?
There are about 10,000 bird species, found in every shape and size, from the tiny hummingbird to the majestic condor. They occur in all the colors of the rainbow and are loved for their musical songs. Some birds can even mimic human speech. All birds lay eggs to incubate their young, and all have feathers—a trait no other animals can claim. Birds also have wings, evolutionary adaptations of ancient forelimbs. Most use their wings for flight, but others, like ostriches and penguins, are grounded.

http://42explore.com/birds.htm
The Topic:
Birds Easier - Birds are warm-blooded creatures with two legs, wings, feathers, and a beak. All birds lay eggs and most can fly. There are about 8,600 different species of birds alive today. Harder - Birds make up the scientific class Aves. They are warm-blooded, egg-laying vertebrate animals that are covered with feathers and possess forelimbs that have modified to become wings. Birds also have scaly legs, and no teeth (except in a few early fossil forms). They maintain a constant body temperature of about 41 degrees C (106 degrees F). All birds today have descended from their flying ancestors, but a few such as ostriches, emus, some grebes, and cormorants have lost their capacity for aerial flight. Others, such as penguins, have become adapted to flying in a much denser medium, water. Birds are found in all habitats, from the icy shores of Antarctica to the hottest parts of the tropics, and from mountains, deserts, plains, and forests to open oceans and densely urbanized areas. Audubon's complete seven volume text. Within the text you will see many names in capital letters. This was the convention that Audubon himself used in his text to set off proper names. We have preserved this convention in our text. Due to the inability of the ASCII character set to print Greek letters, the Greek words that Audubon used in his Family and Genus descriptions have been "Latinized": the letters delta-iota-sigma, for example, have become [dis]; the square brackets indicate that the editors have made this change. A special thank-you goes to Mr. Richard Buonanno, who originally converted the Bird's of America complete text, with references, to HTML format. The 50states.com website utilizes 29 files from

The Birds (1963) is a modern Hitchcock thriller/masterpiece, his first film with Universal Studios. It is the apocalyptic story of a northern California coastal town filled with an onslaught of seemingly unexplained, arbitrary and chaotic attacks of ordinary birds - not birds of prey. Ungrammatical advertising campaigns emphasized: "The Birds Is Coming." This Technicolor feature came after Psycho (1960) - another film loaded with 'bird' references. Novelist Evan Hunter based his screenplay upon the 1952 collection of short stories of the same name by Daphne du Maurier - Hitchcock's third major film based on the author's works (after Jamaica Inn (1939) and Rebecca (1940) ). In du Maurier's story, the birds were attacking in the English countryside, rather than in a small town north of San Francisco. The film's technical wizardry is extraordinary, especially in the film's closing scene (a complex, trick composite shot) - the special visual effects of Ub Iwerks were nominated for an Academy Award (the film's sole nomination), but the Oscar was lost to
