These papers cover a range of disciplines from molecular and cellular physiology and biochemistry through whole plant physiology to community physiology. Every issue of the Journal contains at least one 'Perspective' article. These are most commonly reviews of research areas, which are particularly exciting and important, topical or controversial. Opinion articles are also considered. In addition to 12 regular issues, at least one Special Issue is published each year. These are collections of articles derived from a specialised meeting or conference session. All papers are fully reviewed, and we will endeavour to complete the review process with all speed. Welcome
Students decide to major in the biological sciences for many reasons. Some enjoy the outdoors and wonder about the plants and animals they've seen. Others are curious about the causes and cures of diseases, or they want to become involved in land management and environmental protection. Whatever the reason, you'll find that the University of Wyoming offers a wide variety of opportunities. Within a short distance of the University of Wyoming's campus are short grass prairies, sagebrush-dominated foothills, coniferous forests, mountain lakes, and alpine meadows. These diverse environments, combined with modern research laboratories, provide abundant opportunities for research and teaching in the plant sciences. Many have found the study of plants and fungi to be an excellent starting point for their studies in science. The program provides a broad range of knowledge, leading to a variety of employment opportunities . Since 1887 we've helped students develop their interests in subjects as diverse as botany, mycology, zoology, agriculture, molecular biology, wildlife management, and general biology. Today, the Botany Department offers a wide variety of

Plant Biology will continue to be well represented at the University of Tennessee. Most former Botany courses will continue to be taught, but under another academic unit (and in some cases under a different course number). See listing of undergraduate courses below. There is still a Plant Biology track as an option for an undergraduate Biology degree. Contact the Division of Biology for details. Students wishing to undertake graduate study with former Botany faculty members should make contact with them, and will have to apply to the appropriate department. These two new departments will jointly offer an undergraduate major in Biology and plan to offer, along with the Department of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Molecular Biology , an interdepartmental, undergraduate major in Genetics. However, the undergraduate majors of Botany, Genetics and Zoology will continue to be offered as long as the present catalog (2003-2005) is in effect. This could mean as long as the summer of 2009. You would have until August 2009 to graduate in one of these three majors. Starting in the fall of 2005, ISU freshmen who might have been Botany or Zoology majors will instead be Biology majors. In addition to the interdepartmental Biology major, we will be offering an undergraduate interdepartmental genetics major.

Belk Lecture, 1 April Dr. Allison A. Snow will give the Belk Lecture in Botany, on "An Ecologist's View of Genetically Engineered Crops." Snow is a professor in the Department of Evolution, Ecology, & Organismal Biology at Ohio State University. Her current research combines molecular and ecological approaches to understand how quickly crop genes move into wild populations, and the extent to which novel transgenic traits could benefit weedy and semi-weedy plants.

This slow-growing Agave is native to Nuevo Leon, Chihuahua, Mexico, and is endangered in its native habitat. It lives for about 40 years, before putting up a 10-15 foot bloom stalk with pale green flowers, and then dies. There are some varieties that produce offsets.
