Cryonics is NOT the same as Cryogenics
We wish to clarify that cryogenics, which deals with extremely low temperatures, has no connection with cryonics, the belief that a person can be frozen at death, stored in a cryogenic vessel, and later brought back to life. We do not endorse this belief, and indeed find it untenable. Individuals, script writers, novelists, TV writers, everyone: Please do not confuse these two words. If you need information on body freezing, search the web under cryonics

Cryonics Why Fund Your Suspension with Life Insurance?
by Rudi Hoffman, CFP
This question in some form comes up often in discussions with people with an interest in cryopreservation. The good news is that there are answers that are mathematically valid, (i.e. not merely opinions) and that make sense to most people.
The purpose of this article is to answer this question in a clear, concise, understandable manner. Additionally, we will see that there is an empirical way of determining the optimum funding that will appeal to most rationally minded cryonicists.
Here is the key question. Is is better for Jack to spend his 80 dollars per month in a mutual fund, or a life insurance policy, to fund his suspension?
There are other issues. If Jack is not insurable due to health reasons, he will not be able to obtain life insurance to fund his suspension, and he would be forced to fund his suspension from his estate.
Most people become uninsurable at some point in their lives. It therefore makes sense to find out how affordable it can be to fund your suspension with the incredible financial leverage that only life insurance provides. It the case of cryonicists, the policy can truly become LIFE insurance not DEATH insurance.
Cryonicists tend to be life extenionists who take great care of themselves and thereby can usually qualify for the best possible insurance rates. (I spend a good deal of time explaining this information to insurance companies!)

The Future of Death: Cryonics and the Telos of Liberal Individualism
Abstract
This paper addresses four questions: First, what is trajectory of Western liberal ethics and politics in defining life, rights and citizenship? Second, how will neuro-remediation and other technologies change the definition of death for the brain injured and the cryonically suspended? Third, will people always have to be dead to be cryonically suspended? Fourth, how will changing technologies and definitions of identity affect the status of people revived from brain injury and cryonic suspension? I propose that Western liberal thought is working towards a natural end, a “telos.” In response to a variety of biotechnologies, law and public opinion in liberal democracies will be forced to make explicit that the rights of a living thing are determined by its level of consciousness. I discuss the way that technology will force three clarifications about the value of consciousness, at the beginning, the end and boundaries of human life.

Suspending Life: The Science of Cryonics
- 2 Mar 2007 By Jen Schripsema Page 1 of 3
Moments after death, some people are being preserved in very cold conditions with the hopes that future technology will be able to bring them back to life. Is this scientifically possible?
Freezing people only to revive them at a later date is a good plot device for movies such as Idiocracy Austin Powers , or Forever Young . It may sound like science fiction but in fact over 140 people, including famous baseball player Ted Williams, have already been preserved using a technique called cryonics, where human bodies are cooled to extremely low temperatures and stored in the hope that future technology will bring them back to life. But how does cryonics actually work? Or, according to many scientists, not work? Credit: Alcor Life Extension Foundation This "bigfoot" Dewar is custom-designed to contain four wholebody patients and six neuropatients immersed in liquid nitrogen at -196 degrees Celsius. The Dewar is an insulated container that consumes no electric power. Liquid nitrogen is added periodically to replace the small amount that evaporates.

Arguments for cryonics
I just posted the arguments for cryonics in a special "truth mapping" format. Everyone can post critiques, agree and disagree with the reasonsing, etc. It starts with the evidence and concludes that cryonics is likely to work and signing up for a cryopreservation is a rational choice for everyone. posted by Danila at 9:32 PM

Cryonics Evidence for this comes from many sources. Invertebrates (e.g. insects) have been completely frozen and revived.
Many healthy children walking around today, were also once frozen embryos.
Several mammalian organs, e.g. dogs kidneys, have been fully functional after complete freezing.
Most kinds of human tissue have been successfully frozen and revived. " Cryonic suspension is a bridge to the future " It should be remembered that it is not our job to freeze, but to cool down. We undertake upon death to be with you as soon as possible, gently using packed ice to cool the deceased down. We will then apply a medical procedure known as Perfusion (a form of transfusion) perfected by injection and then pack the deceased in ice in a specially designed container for shipment as quickly as possible to Detroit, using the same documentation as we would when shipping any human remains. Please remember this can only be done after Legal Death has been recorded and from receipt of Coroners clearance.

Cryonics?
Question: What is cryonics and how safe and effective is it? bol Answer: Cryonics is the freezing of people (sometimes just their heads) right after they die in the hopes that sometime in the future we will learn how to safely unfreeze them and cure them of whatever killed them in the first place. So is it safe? Well, since you're already dead, I guess so. Will it work? Who knows. It is expensive though. - jade
