The Sanilac Petroglyphs is a Michigan State Historic Site located in the center of Michigan's Thumb area. Though this site is jointly administered by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Michigan Department of History, Arts and Libraries , the pavilion surrounding the petroglyph area is currently closed to the public. The park is not staffed due to Michigan budget concerns, and the area is fenced in and locked. However, it is possible to get permission to view the petroglyphs if you contact the park manager at Albert E. Sleeper State Park . There may be a use fee involved. Great care must be taken when viewing the petroglyphs not to touch them, walk on them, or harm them in any way. To get to the petroglyphs from the south, take M-53 north to Bay City - Forestville Road, turn right and go past New Greenleaf about 8 miles. Germania Road turns south and a parking lot for the petroglyph trail is almost immediately on the right hand side. If you are coming from the north, the petroglyphs are almost directly south of Bad Axe about ten miles. We visited the site May 31, 2003. One of our interests in visiting the site had to do with whether or not there is any correlation between the carvings on the sandstone at this site and the Soper-Savage artifacts (commonly called "frauds" by many researchers). The Soper-Savage collection is a featured exhibit at the

Biology : Cryptozoology Cryptozoology , literally the science of hidden animals, comes from three Greek words, kryptos (hidden), zoon (animal), and logos (discourse). The animals that cryptozoology is concerned with are unexpected in some way, because they are incompletely known (Heuvelmans, 1988).
  • Hidden animals, with which cryptozoology is concerned, are by definition very incompletely known. To gain more credence, they have to be documented as carefully and exhaustively as possible by a search through the mosr diverse fields of knowleige. Cryptozoological research thus requires not only a thorough grasp of most of the zoological sciences, including, of course, physical anthropology, but also a certain training in such extraneous branches of knowledge as myrhology, linguistics, archaeology and history. It will consequently be conducted more extensively in libraries, newspaper morgues, regional archives, museums' art galleries, laboratories, and zoological parks rather than in the field! - (Heuvelmans, Cryptozoology Vol. 7 1988)

The Anathema case no.2; hybrid species

1893: Ernesto Sabatella - biologist and Vatican priest had struggled with his thirst for knowledge and its effect on his personal faith. His own secular research had yielded many answers that challenged the very foundation of his belief, and drove a wedge into relationships with his peers. His work was seen as heretical and he was eventually shunned. In a last bid attempt to quell the war in his mind, he began a quest to seek an equilibrium between science and religion. Years passed and with no hope of solace - he turned to the fringe field of genetics. The human genome had been mapped by 1852 and heralded a myriad of possibilities. He took from this what he could - and applied various mathematical hypothesis to
his research; to break the symmetry of life and find the face of god.
