I am in the process of re-writing the content, to bring it up to date and to make it more relevant, using the 2001 Census results as a baseline from which to work both backwards and forwards. I intend to provide a solid demographic foundation for the analysis of the 2005 (and subsequent) election results, both local and Westminster.
This process may take some time, so I ask you to be patient. If you have visited the site in the past, and would like to access some of the data that you read, then if you send me an e-mail at pdni [at] hotmail.com, I will try to send it to you.

The Department will admit at most 15 students each year for the next six years and then maintain its enrollment as students begin their fourth and fifth years of study. Institute for Demographic and Socioeconomic Research Directed by Dr. Karl Eschbach and operating in collaboration with the Department of Demography and Organizational Studies, The Institute for Demographic and Socioeconomic Research is the largest applied demographic research institute in Texas . IDSER faculty and staff conduct ongoing analyses of the impacts of demographic change on Texas and other parts of the nation including its landmark work: The New Texas Challenge: Population Change and the Future of Texas by Steve Murdock, the founding Director of the Institute and Presidential nominee as the next Director of the US Census Bureau. The Institute employs several full-time Demography Ph.D. students on research projects while the Department, through the College of Public Policy, supports as many as 8 full time students.

The Stanford Center on the Demography and Economics of Health and Aging (CDEHA) promotes the study of trends in demography, economics, health, and health care, and the effects of these trends on the well-being of the elderly. CDEHA conducts research in four program areas: 1) Effects of medical technology on costs, health outcomes, and physical and psychological well-being and choices of the elderly
2) Longitudinal and cohort studies of medical care, costs, and health and economic outcomes of older populations, in the United States and other countries, with particular emphasis on economic and health interest in outcome disparities
3) The interrelationships of health characteristics, economic status, functional status, and health care throughout the life cycle
4) Comparative international studies of demography, health, health care, and health policy affecting the aged, including analysis of health system efficiency in addressing the health care needs of the elderly
Benefitting from an university environment supportive of multidisciplinary research, CDEHA has access to a unique combination of clinical expertise and strength in economics and other disciplines relevant to the program areas; the ability to draw upon an extensive foundation of ongoing projects and research support; and collections of U.S. and international data relevant to the program areas, along with the expertise to work with large longitudinal databases.

Cemetery Demography: Background
One way to learn about populations of living organisms is to examine age-specific rates of mortality and reproduction. Because accumulated age-specific information is often presented in life tables, life table analysis is a common component of courses in ecology or population biology. To illustrate this procedure, life tables are often prepared for humans using data collected from cemeteries (the data are year of birth, age at death, and sex). Available below are sets of student-collected data for use in survivorship and demographic studies. Cemetery demography is an exercise used in many ecology courses across the country because it: (1) demonstrates the use and value of life table analysis, (2) uses data that can be readily collected, (3) produces results (patterns of human survivorship) that are of direct interest to most students, and (4) lets students answer questions they raise themselves. They can, for example, make various survivorship comparisons - males vs. females, early vs. late 19th century, urban vs. rural locations, northern vs. southern regions - as well as examine the change in survivorship patterns over time and the impact of major episodes of mortality (e.g., the Civil War).

The urgency of addressing the vulnerability of young women and adolescent girls of all backgrounds, but particularly the poor, cannot be over stated. Innovative, far-reaching and rapid responses are needed to impact whole generations so that the Millennium Development Goals to reduce poverty can be within reach. This paper sets out to explore the relationship between economic independence, vulnerability to HIV infection, the level of sexual and reproductive health among women and adolescent girls, and gender-based violence. Demography Is Not Destiny
Gib Clarke , Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars on March 4, 2008 - 8:02am Published under: Leading Voices Access to Abortion Contraception Maternal Health ... print this The connections between security and demographic trends-including migration patterns age distribution , and population growth rates -have become increasingly prominent in academic and policy circles, as well as in the mainstream media. While researchers have been studying these links for decades, they are worth a deeper look-not only because of their newfound attention, but also because we now have more evidence to evaluate them. No reasonable scholar or practitioner would argue that there is a simple causal relationship between demography and security-i.e., that a total fertility rate of 5.0 children per woman indicates that civil war will break out 20 years from now, or that a country cannot remain stable unless its age distribution resembles a bell curve. However, many argue that demographic trends can interact with other factors such as
