DNA gene chips and novel software used to describe kidney development
The step-by-step development of a mammalian kidney, from its early beginnings in the embryo to its adult role as a vital filtration system, has been described by UCSD School of Medicine researchers Date: 15 Jan 2008 , Rating: not rated Cloned stem cells prove identical to fertilized stem cells
Scientists generally agree that all cloned animals are biologically flawed. But they don't agree about what that means for stem cells derived from cloned embryos, the basis for therapeutic cloning. Date: 15 Jan 2008 , Rating: not rated Genetic interplay between the transcription factors Sp8 and Emx2 in the patterning of the forebrain
The authors show that the transcription factor Sp8 has an essential role in the molecular and functional patterning of the developing telencephalon along the anteroposterior axis by modulating the expression gradients of Emx2 and Pax6.

Developmental biology
Covers the study of normal developmental processes and mechanisms from the cellular to organismal level, in plants, animals and microbes. We encourage projects on differentiation, morphogenesis, stem cell biology, and comparative developmental biology, including the application of genetics - particularly through analysis of gene networks and post-genomic approaches. Current priorities are gene function analysis in developmental biology, evolutionary developmental biology, and stem cell biology. The research grant area to which you apply depends more in the underlying aim of the work than in the organism under study. Organismal-level studies that incorporate developmental aspects in plants are generally covered in the plant and microbial sciences research grant area. Research applying molecular, cellular and behavioural information (in addition to genetic approaches) to understand how animals function at the tissue level and above is generally covered by the animal sciences research grant area.

But how glucose thwarts the development of certain tissues in the embryo has been unclear. This latest study, published in the April Diabetologia

Members of the Division have been involved in two well associated projects. One , which was initiated in 1968, is to understand how a special tissue like the silk gland of Bombyx mori is differentiated along the developmental programs and results in transcribing a specific set of genes like the silk fibroin, fibroin L-chain, P25, sericin-1, and sericin-2 genes. The other initiated at the time when the Division was established in 1978 is concerned with how the body plan of the silkworm is controlled and how the developmental regulatory genes regulate a set of target genes in specifying the identities of various regions of the embryos.

Developmental biology is the study of the process by which organisms grow and develop. Modern developmental biology studies the genetic control of cell growth differentiation and " morphogenesis ," which is the process that gives rise to tissues organs and anatomy Embryology is a subfield, the study of organisms between the one-cell stage (generally, the zygote ) and the end of the embryonic stage, which is not necessarily the beginning of free living. Embryology was originally a more descriptive science until the 20th century . Embryology and developmental biology today deal with the various steps necessary for the correct and complete formation of the body of a living organism. The related field of evolutionary developmental biology was formed largely in the and is a synthesis of findings from molecular developmental biology and evolutionary biology which considers the diversity of organismal form in an evolutionary context.
