I have seen many products advertised as “ergonomic” which just plain aren’t. Reading “ergonomic” on a tool or furniture box is about as useful as

Move With Ease
by Rajal Cohen, AmSat Certified teacher of the Alexander Technique Beyond Ergonomics As our society becomes increasingly mechanized, more and more people are suffering from repetitive strain injuries. From debilitating carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis, to the chronic neck pain that everyone who works at a computer takes for granted, we are all showing the effects. Why is this? On the other hand, there are a number of aids out there that really can make your life easier - if you know how to use them. Remember, they are just tools to help you change, they are not the change itself. The most ergonomic environment in the world will not make as much difference as changing the way you think. We have grown accustomed to thinking of ourselves as if our bodies were machines, and our minds completely separate. We see illustrations that show our hearts as engines, our lungs as bellows, our brains as computers, and our joints as hinges. These metaphors are fine as far as they go, but they are fundamentally misleading.

Neutral Posture, the only woman-owned seating manufacturer in the United States, is a Texas-based firm owned and operated by the mother-daughter team of Jaye Congleton and Rebecca Congleton Boenigk. Neutral Posture is a certified women’s business enterprise (WBE), and is one of the top diversity suppliers for the United States government and Fortune 500 companies worldwide.
A team of certified professional ergonomists, engineers and designers, design Neutral Posture products to be innovative and diverse, accommodating an infinite array of body types and sizes. Neutral Posture’s seating and computer accessories are the world’s most unique and ergonomically correct. From design to manufacturing to finish and beyond, our products repeatedly prove to be best in class, setting the bar for innovation, comfort, and quality.
The latest offering from Neutral Posture is the Ntune Seating System, the “office furniture that fights fat”. Mark E. Benden, PhD, CPE, leading ergonomic researcher and author of “Could You Stand To Lose? Weight Loss Secrets for Office Workers” developed the N•tune™ Seating System to integrate the chair/stool design with the storage and layout potential of systems furniture for the home or office. The N•tune™ concept is all about raising desk heights from 30” up to 40” and then raising the chair, to stool height, allowing users to easily and freely stand up to work when needed. The key to making this system work is the platform on the chair that allows for easy transition from sitting to standing and vice versa. By incorporating standing breaks we also unknowingly expend more energy (i.e. burn calories).
