PA STATE AGENCIES Education Environmental Protection Game Commission ... Survey PennPilot is an on-line air photo resource for available stereo aerial photography of Pennsylvania for the 1930s-1970s time period. The first generation prints were scanned and are provided on-line at various resolutions. DCNR contracted with the Pennsylvania State University (PSU) to scan the photos and create web access. The photos were originally in the library collection of the Bureau of Topographic and Geologic Survey. The earliest photos had been given to the State Archives for safe-keeping. The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission cooperated with DCNR and PSU to gain access to these photos. The photos can be viewed or downloaded at the Penn Pilot web site Please read the instructions carefully, especially on how to save the data at the highest resolution. They can be converted into orthoimagery, if desired, but are provided here as stereo pairs. Historic aerial photography has many uses. Primary among them is for Environmental Site assessments, or ESAs, which are conducted prior to purchasing a property.
