Helicopters are the most versatile flying machines in existence today. This versatility gives the pilot complete access to three-dimensional space in a way that no airplane can. If you have ever flown in a helicopter you know that its abilities are exhilarating. The amazing flexibility of helicopters means that they can fly almost anywhere. However, it also means that flying the machines is complicated. The pilot has to think in three dimensions and must use both arms and both legs constantly to keep a helicopter in the air. Piloting a helicopter requires a great deal of training and skill, as well as continuous attention to the machine. In this article, you will learn about all of a helicopter's different capabilities and how it's able to do such incredible things.

http://www.centennialofflight.gov/essay/Dictionary/helicopter/DI27.htm
Helicopters A helicopter is an aircraft that can take off and land vertically. Also called a "rotary aircraft," it can hover and rotate in the air and can move sideways and backwards while aloft. It can change direction very quickly and can stop moving completely and begin hovering. A helicopter flies by means of the thrust that is created by the rotation of the blades of a main rotor that is mounted on a shaft above the fuselage, or body, of the aircraft. As the blades rotate, an airflow is created over them, resulting in lift. This raises the helicopter. A pilot maneuvers the helicopter by changing the pitch, or angle, of the rotor blades as they move through the air. An engine is used to create the force needed to lift the aircraft and its passengers and cargo. Reciprocating gasoline and gas turbine engines are the most common types used on helicopters. The Sikorsky CH-3E helicopter Credits - U.S Air Force All helicopters need a way to counteract the torque produced by the main rotor. If this were not done, the rotor would turn in one direction, and the fuselage would turn in the opposite direction. Usually, a small tail rotor is used to produce a sideways thrust that prevents the fuselage from rotating. By increasing or decreasing the thrust produced by the tail rotor, the pilot can steer the helicopter to the left or right. Another way to counteract thrust is with two main rotors that turn in opposite, or counter-rotating, directions. Each rotor cancels the torque produced by the other. No tail rotor is needed in this type of helicopter.

If safety, comfort, and experience are important to you, Safari Helicopters should be your choice.
A family-owned company, Safari Helicopters was founded in 1987 by Preston Myers, one of Hawaii's most experienced pilots. Preston has, over the years, built his company and reputation on the sound principles of safety, professionalism and innovation always striving to offer the latest in state-of-the-art equipment to assure passengers of an unsurpassable and unforgettable helicopter "safari."
Preston's aviation career spans more than 30 years, starting with a college degree in aviation, followed by service as a U.S. Navy pilot in the Vietnam conflict, and then his retirement as a full commander from the U.S. Naval Reserves. Later, Preston returned to Southeast Asia as a civilian and flew for the now-famous "Air America." Based in Udorn, Thailand, he participated in secret missions throughout Laos. Preston's adventures continued when he relocated to Singapore, flying on oil exploration projects in Borneo, Sumatra, Java, Celebes, Irian Jaya (Dutch New Guinea) and in the Andaman Islands of India.
Sure, all of this was exciting, but definitely not the best way to promote good family relationships. Preston finally decided to give up jungle-camp life to spend more time with his family and eventually moved with his wife, Grace, and their three children to the island of Kauai. In 1987, Preston started Safari Helicopters on Kauai, and since then has expanded the company's flightseeing operations to the Big Island, with locations in Hilo and Kailua-Kona.
