The National Geographic Society and National Park Service will be conducting a 24 hour flora and fauna survey of the Santa Monica Mountains. So far three herp survey teams are being established. Dr. James Archie of Cal State Long Beach (lizards), Dr. Lee Kats of Pepperdine University(amphibians) and Gary Bustead of the National Park Service (checking pitfall traps) are the lead scientists. The team surveys will be 4 hours long and conducted in shifts and you are welcome to sign-up for as many as you can handle between noon Satudray through noon Sunday. If you're interested in volunteering for a survey, contact Hanna Strauss, Los Angeles Chapter VP at (818)990.1680 or h.strauss@sbcglobal.net.
