Pacific Northwest International Trade Association (PNITA)
Mission
Pacific Northwest International Trade Association promotes non-partisan support for international trade, works to develop policies that reflect the interests and consensus of its members who are dedicated to supporting global competitiveness under a fair and equitable trading system. History and Purpose
Founded in 1982, PNITA is a private, non-profit trade association committed to promoting international trade throughout the Pacific Northwest region. Today, PNITA represents leading corporations and small businesses located in Oregon, Idaho, and Washington State. Our members are exporters and importers in the fields of agriculture, manufacturing, and the service sectors. Throughout its history, PNITA has supported an open trading system including the enforcement of US trade laws that protect against predatory dumping and aggressive export subsidies employed by some of our trading partners. We have also worked closely with elected state and federal representatives to advocate for our members on trade interests of regional significance. These efforts include pursuing sound international tax policies, investing in the region’s transportation network, and promoting greater awareness and understanding of how trade benefits the economy and the community. This effort is vital to the sustainability of Medicaid managed care. MHPA principles regarding actuarial soundness are: MHPA encourages CMS to disseminate best practices by states that have implemented the actuarial soundness requirement, focusing on how states can strengthen the overall process in each particular state. Best practices should include how states have established ongoing dialogue with Medicaid managed care organizations as part of the rate setting process. MHPA encourages openness and transparency, to the best extent possible, in the rate setting process. The preamble of the BBA indicated that CMS encourages sharing of relevant rate setting information between the states and participating health plans. MHPA encourages CMS to conduct joint training for Regional Office reviewers, states, Medicaid managed care organizations, actuaries and other key parties to promote a common understanding and consistent application of the actuarial soundness requirements.

    Taking Stock of Natural Capital
Ask yourself, how much would I pay for a sip of water? What about a breath of fresh air or a handful of fertile soil? What's a warm breeze or a blue sky worth in dollars and cents? As populations grow and global resources become strained, a few scientists are starting to ponder just such questions. Their goal is to understand the value of natural systems like air and water in terms of the human economy. Some writers have suggested that the ecosystem provides a range of free services that we take for granted, and that we may be in the process of squandering.

Clinical Anatomy and The Anatomical Record. The governing boards of AAA, AACA and HAPS have approved joining the coalition. O n 17 October 2003 there was an historic meeting in Washington , D.C. Representatives from the American Association of Anatomists (AAA), American Association of Clinical Anatomists (AACA), Association of Anatomy, Cell Biology, and Neurobiology Chairpersons (AACBNC), the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS) gathered in a roundtable discussion, hosted by Donald Jenkins of the National Library of Medicine. The meeting was the initiative of Bob McCuskey and Don Jenkins, and enthusiastically endorsed by the representatives of the above-named organizations. The goal was to seek common ground on challenges and opportunities presented to the modern anatomist in the United States and Canada . The discussions were amicable and far-reaching. There was widespread concern about the source of future teachers of anatomy. Whereas the participants unanimously agreed that a shortfall is predictable, it is imperative to involve the lead administrators at the involved academic institutions ( i.e.
