    a better life
CoRHS is featured in the Longmont Times-Call magazine, Balance Learn how the shelter was started and see some of our adoptable animals!
    March 21, 2008
Spring is here! Around CoRHS, we are counting the days until like farm animals, our turtles and tortoise come out of hibernation and live outside 24/7.
Unlike dog and cat shelters, CoRHS has a decidedly outdoor part of the year. We're readying sulcata tortoise, box turtle, and desert tortoise pens, and working on the aquatic habitatrepairing winter wear and tear on pumps, filters, and landscaping rocking that all shift during the many cold months. Our Events page lists upcoming volunteer activities (please help us get ready!) and workshops in April, May, and June.
Iguanas are finally finishing up their egg laying; both we and they are happy to be finished with this stressful task. Below is Flutie who decided at least a couple eggs were best laid on her basking spot and not in her nest box!
With eggs will come hatchlings, though not at the shelter. CoRHS is a firm believer in conservation-only reptile breeding. One example is work helping the Galapagos tortoises. Below is a week old hatchling and her 70 year old mom!

Welcome to Harford Reptile! Clown Ball Python Thank you for visiting the Harford Reptile Web Site. We have maintained a collection of snakes and lizards since 1971, and have been successful in breeding a wide diversity of species; pythons, boas, leopard geckos and colubrids. We successfully bred the green tree python almost every year from 1983 to 1995, and have bred blue chondros through three generations. We were one of the first private facilities in the US to succesfully breed the ringed python ( Bothrochilus boa ), and the woma ( Aspidites ramsayi ), and were the third private facility in the US to breed the Angolan Python ( Python anchietae ), which we now produce successfully every year. Now, we have turned our attention to select mutations of the Ball Pythons Kenyan Sand Boas , and Angolan Pythons exclusively. Through this, we always put the customer first, and are proud of our record in this regard.
