Signal processing From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search Signal processing is the analysis, interpretation, and manipulation of signals . Signals of interest include sound images , biological signals such as ECG radar signals, and many others. Processing of such signals includes storage and reconstruction, separation of information from noise (for example, aircraft identification by radar), compression (for example, image compression ), and feature extraction (for example, speech-to-text conversion). edit Signal classification Signals can be either analog or digital, and may come from various sources. There are various sorts of signal processing, depending on the nature of the signal, as in the following examples. For analog signals, signal processing may involve the amplification and filtering of audio signals for audio equipment or the modulation and demodulation of signals for telecommunications. For digital signals, signal processing may involve the compression, error checking and error detection of digital signals. Analog signal processing —for signals that have not been digitized, as in classical radio, telephone, radar, and television systems

Business.utah.gov Center for DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING Brigham Young University Technology Rarely is a technology developed that is still valid 15+ years after it was first introduced. The Center for Digital Signal Processing was the first to create a way to accurately simulate digital imaging and digital sound. The technology is comprised of three elements. Digital signal processing is the first. It has been marketed primarily to the military for use in creating accurate simulations for pilot training or military treasure hunts. Digital signal hearing is the second. It has been used to create a better hearing aid. The third, multi-spectral imaging is the technology being used to read ancient damaged scrolls. Script reading is just one of the applications for multi-spectral imaging. Center History Sonic Innovations, a hearing aid company, was formed the year after state funding ended. It was housing for licensing until 1995 when it received venture capital funding. It went public in 2000 and now is a worldwide public company with 600+ employees, 145 of which are in Utah, the corporate headquarters. The jobs in Utah are administrative, research and development, and marketing. The employees are highly educated, professional, and well paid. Deseret Digital Design is another spin off of the center. It existed in Salt Lake City for about six years and had six employees at its peak. Though Deseret Digital Design was not developing hearing aids, it was using technology related to what Sonic was doing. To protect its interest in the technology, Sonic purchased everything that Deseret Digital Design had developed. Deseret Digital Design dissolved.
