The access.log has to be manually created to trigger the exploit, as Squid will not allow malformed HTTP methods. The useragent log is more critical, as this vulnerability can be exploited by just passing the useragent string within a request to the Squid proxy. PoC/Exploit: Edit a normal access log and set the request method to an overly long string. Edit a normal useragent log and set the useragent field to an overly long string or send a request to the Squid proxy server passing an overly long string as useragent in the HTTP header.

Full Description
Squid is the most popular Web caching software in use today, and it works on a variety of platforms including Linux, FreeBSD, and Windows. Squid improves network performance by reducing the amount of bandwidth used when surfing the Web. It makes web pages load faster and can even reduce the load on your web server. By caching and reusing popular web content, Squid allows you to get by with smaller network connections. It also protects the host on your internal network by acting as a firewall and proxying your internal web traffic. You can use Squid to collect statistics about the traffic on your network, prevent users from visiting inappropriate web sites at work or school, ensure that only authorized users can surf the Internet, and enhance your privacy by filtering sensitive information from web requests. Companies, schools, libraries, and organizations that use web-caching proxies can look forward to a multitude of benefits. Written by Duane Wessels, the creator of Squid

Configuring Hierarchical Squid Caches
Duane Wessels, wessels@nlanr.net
August 19, 1997 Configuring Web caches in a hierarchy or mesh can be a daunting process. Caching software such as Squid offers many configuration options. We explain the implications for joining a cache mesh and discuss when certain features will or will not provide benefits. We present common-case scenarios for Internet service providers, corporations, and educational institutions. We also explain how to understand and process cache log files to determine how your cache is interacting with the mesh.

    Dosidicus gigas Habitat
Humboldt squid live at depths of 660 to 2,300 feet in the eastern Pacific, ranging from Tierra del Fuego north to California. They take their name from the Humboldt Current in which they live off the coast of South America. Recently, the squid have been appearing further north, as far as Sitka, Alaska, raising alarm about ecological problems possibly underlying the northward migration. Some oceanographers suggest that warming oceans are at fault, while others speculate that declining numbers of the squid's predators due to overfishing may have allowed Humboldts to expand their range. Physical description
Jumbo squid can reach up to six feet and weigh as much as 100 pounds. Their skin varies from deep purplish-red to white. Like other cephalopods, muscle-bound chromatophores on their skin enable them to flash a range of colors. They have two diamond-shaped fins which they use to swim and glide. Lifespan
The average life span of a Humboldt squid is about one year.
