If the "G spot orgasm" seems semi-mythical, however, that's because there has been scant evidence of its existence. Now for the first time gynaecological scans have revealed clear anatomical differences between women who claim to experience vaginal orgasms involving a G spot and those who don't. It might mean that there is a G spot, after all. What's more, a simple test could tell you if it's time to give up the hunt, or if your partner just needs to try harder.

What Is Carotid Ultrasound?
Carotid (ka-ROT-id) ultrasound is a painless and harmless test that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the insides of the two large arteries in your neck. These arteries, called carotid arteries, supply your brain with blood. You have one carotid artery on each side of your neck. Carotid ultrasound shows whether a material called plaque (plak) has narrowed your carotid arteries. Plaque is made up of fat, cholesterol, calcium, and other substances found in the blood. It builds up on the insides of your arteries as you age. Too much plaque in a carotid artery can cause a stroke . The plaque can slow down or block the flow of blood through the artery, allowing a blood clot to form. A piece of the blood clot can break off and get stuck in the artery, blocking blood flow to the brain. This is what causes a stroke. A standard carotid ultrasound shows the structure of your carotid artery. Your carotid ultrasound test may include a Doppler ultrasound. Doppler ultrasound is a special ultrasound that shows the movement of blood through your blood vessels. Your doctor often will need results from both types of ultrasound to fully assess if there is a problem with blood flow through your carotid arteries. March 2007

Sonoluminescence and Medical Ultrasound Scientists have found evidence that medical ultrasound devices can produce sonoluminescence. This figure shows the calculated acoustic field of a device used in medicine to induce therapeutic lesions in tissue. This acoustic field generates intense sonoluminescence, although not so much at the focus, where one would expect it to be the most intense. Ultrasound Imaging
Introduction
Ultrasound, as currently practiced in medicine, is a real-time tomgraphic imaging modality. Not only does it produce real-time tomograms of the position of reflecting surfaces (internal organs and structures), but it can be used to produce real-time images of tissue and blood motion. Theory and Instrumentation
Doppler Ultrasound
If a structure is stationary, the frequency of the reflected wave will be identical to that of the impinging wave. A moving structure will cause a back-scattered signal frequency shifted higher or lower depending on the structure's velocity toward or away from the sound generator (called a transducer).
For example, when an impinging sound pulse passes through a blood vessel, scattering and reflection occurs from the moving red cells. In this process, small amounts of sound energy are absorbed by each red cell, then re-radiated in all directions. If the cell is moving with respect to the source, the back scattered energy returning to the source will be shifted in frequency, with the magnitude and direction proportional to the velocity of the respective blood cell. Thus, if we use ultrasound to image the cross-sectional area of the blood vessel, the volume of blood flow can be calculated from the area of the vessel and the average velocities of the blood cells. Clinical Applications
