The newest health center in Greensburg is paid for by county tax dollars. For the last month, dozens of county employees have been taking aerobics classes in the empty third-floor offices of the Westmoreland County Courthouse in Greensburg, while county leaders pay for private space outside the building. County commissioners on Tuesday agreed to pay more than $45,000 a year for the next half-decade to lease private office space to store deeds and mortgage records across the street from the courthouse. Commissioner Kim Ward voted against the lease agreement. story continues below
"I think there is space in the courthouse we could use for now," Ward said. The former offices of the Children's Bureau, where daily aerobics classes are held during the lunch hour and after work, are still vacant. Those classes are part of the county's wellness program for workers who pay to participate in the aerobics sessions. Officials said the vacated space in the Recorder of Deeds Office at the courthouse will be used to house a new Geographical Informational Systems Office, which will coordinate digital mapping of the county.
