Aikido
Aikido is a Japanese Martial Art founded by Morihei Ueshiba, O'Sensei. In Aikido, size and strength are minimized as the attack is redirected and the attacker controlled. The student not only learns self defense and self confidence, but develops flexibility, coordination and an awareness of self and others. Aikido is a healthy activity that is suitable for ages from 7 upwards, where students of all levels work together in a helping, supportive environment. more on Aikido

Aikido Eastside Adult Classes Kid's Classes Schedule Seminars ... Private Lessons Aikido Eastside offers daily classes for adults and children in the non-violent, non-competitive Japanese martial art of Aikido providing Mind, Body, Spirit integration as well as effective self defense. Aikido focuses on center to center connection and strives to allow one to defend without the necessity of seriously harming the attacker. The art developed in the mid 20th century as a gift to all mankind by Master Morihei Ueshiba , whom practitioners call "O Sensei" or revered teacher. The techniques of this art as taught to George Ledyard Sensei by his teacher Mitsugi Saotome Sensei focus on control and neutralization of an attack through harmonious movement and non-resistance. Since the unarmed techniques of Aikido originally derive from weapons techniques we train with the traditional weapons of sword and staff on a weekly basis. People train in Aikido for a number of reasons. It is a system of self defense and great exercise. In addition it is also a form of moving meditation with a strong spiritual underpinning and even serves as the model for various systems of conflict resolution. The emphasis on movement and redirection of force make Aikido the perfect martial art for those who are not physically large or powerful individuals. A ikido training will develop a relaxed and centered manner when facing conflict. It is a martial art which focuses on personal development as much as physical self defense and should prove useful in the every day lives of the students in a multitude of ways.

Transforming Conflict into Grace Aikido is a martial art dedicated to consciously transforming the way we manage conflict. In Aikido we learn to take down aggressors by working in harmony with their force. Through our practice, we also learn to cultivate greater harmony in our own bodies and spirits, and in our relationships with others and with the world. Through vigorous, challenging, and joyful martial training in a supportive group environment, we develop the resources to handle conflict (physical and otherwise) with grace, skill, calm strength, and compassion. Our style of Aikido is called Aikido Shusekai, which means Aikido for an Excellent World. The innovative teaching of Nick Walker Sensei and our other instructors is geared toward helping each student explore and develop his or her own natural strengths and potentials. We currently offer

39. Seidokan Aikido
Los Angeles based organization founded by Roderick T. Kobayashi. Seidokan style aikido has a strong influence from the Ki Society. History of the style,
http://www.seidokan.org/
The objectives of Seidokan Aikido are to study the philosophy and the arts of Aikido and further develop them to best suit the modern way of life. Seidokan Aikido is the study of Aikido as a whole. Old traditions are analyzed and only the good traditions are kept and further developed so that they can be useful in our daily lives. Seidokan Aikido emphasizes the attitude of training. The students and the instructors grow together at Seidokan Aikido dojos. The students learn the fundamentals from the instructors and the instructors gain deeper understanding of Aikido while sharing their knowledge with the students. Through earnest, realistic and sincere training, the students of Seidokan Aikido will learn the true meaning of Aikido. The motto for Seidokan is " earnest, sincere, and realistic ." This is derived from the kanji for " sei " (alternatively pronounced " makoto ") means " fundamental truth ." Seidokan therefore emphasizes an approach to Aikido which requires continued honest evaluation of both technique and philosophy. In particular, Seidokan follows the line of tradition of O'Sensei which encourages ongoing refinement of the art to accommodate a modern way of life. Technique as taught by Seidokan Kancho
