My team opened the month with a hotdog stand fund raiser at our local supermarket. I took the opportunity to pour water in my shoes and stand in front of a fan in the walk in freezer exploding ice cubes in an open blender. Glorious!!! The Alpine Coaches had sent requests to the MSHSL to return to a rotating state meet location, add qualify additional teams to the State meet, and qualify more individuals. This was discussed by the MSHSL Board of Directors but none of the proposals were passed. The Board discussed setting up a subcommittee to meet with coaches to better understand what our unique needs are and suggestions are. Rich Matter, an Assistant Director for the MSHSL, is our liaison to the Board and will be keeping us informed about this. Rich can be reached at

In Vail 1999 he won Finland’s first ever World Championship medal in Alpine skiing – and gold at that. After a few quieter years Kalle made a spectacular comeback in the 2002/03 season. He won the classic slalom race at Kitzbühel – first ever Finnish victory in the Alpine World Cup – and went on to win three more slalom competitions in a row and the World Cup title in the discipline. At that time Kalle was considered a slalom specialist but in the next season he proved that wrong by winning two World Cup races in giant slalomas well. Kalle has been coached all through his career by his father Jouni. His favourite pastimes are tennis, golf and windsurfing. JUKKA RAJALA * April 13, 1982 Kuusankoski

3 Simple Things You Need To Know About Skiing
By: Robert Michael If you've ever started something new for the first time you know it can be a frightening experience. This is especially true in trying something that has the risk of injury involved. The information here should ease your anxieties about getting started if you are just beginning skiing. There are three things that you should know before you start skiing. You should know about equipment, ski slopes, and some basic instruction. First of all you need some equipment. You might have a question of whether you should rent or buy. If your just getting started it is best to rent as you don't know how much you'll enjoy skiing. It is also important to rent because there are many different styles of skis and boots that you may want to try before you settle in on something to buy. Your equipment should be comfortable and suit your skill level. If you're a beginner let the salespeople know that so they can choose the right equipment for you. Make sure you get ski goggles. If you will be taking children with you skiing make sure they have helmets. Skis, helmets, boots and goggles should all be available at the ski resorts rental shop... Snowcat Skiing: What Is It?
