"The game of badminton is deceptive. The basic techniques are easy to learn and the equipment is easy to handle, providing immediate enjoyment. As experience is gained, however, badminton becomes a mentally and physically stimulating sport where dexterity, agility and stamina are much more important than size and power. Badminton can be intensely competitive, or simply a vigorous lifetime sport." Paul Malischke Founding Club Member The University of Wisconsin Badminton Club was formed in 1980 to provide organized badminton play, camaraderie, coaching, and tournaments. All levels of ability are welcome, and the Club is open to all University students, faculty and staff. Club members play at various times in the Natatorium/Unit II Gym (the Nat), which has as many as 12 high-quality badminton courts available. To join the Club, fill out the membership form and submit it to a Club officer. Dues are $20 per year for students, and $30 per year for faculty or staff. Memberships expire August 15th each year. Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next. Amen.
Reinhold Niebuhr This is my mantra nowadays. Life seems so unfair. I feel so helpless. But when I feel depression coming, I just count my blessings. What more can I ask for? I have a very loving husband and we're expecting a baby who doesn't deserve to be stressed. Please Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Have a peaceful weekend everyone. Posted by ladybug at 21 comments

[Photo by David Maher, IRELAND OUT] Special Olympics Badminton players demonstrate the development of hand-eye coordination, muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular fitness and quick footwork. Badminton players have to manage reaction time demands, speed and endurance challenges. In addition to offering traditional singles and doubles events, Special Olympics offers individual skills competition to allow athletes to train and compete in basic badminton skills. The development of these key skills is necessary prior to advancing to match play. These skills include strokes, serves and volleys. A player's final score is determined by adding together the scores achieved in each of the events. Special Olympics athletes can also participate in Unified Sports® Badminton doubles and mixed doubles events. Unified Sports is a program that combines Special Olympics athletes and athletes without intellectual disabilities (partners) on sports teams for training and competition. In Unified Sports Badminton, a doubles team would consist of one Special Olympics athlete and one partner.

The Game ( About Rules History Improve your game ...
Commercial
A popular and skilled game played indoors in pairs or doubles on a court slightly smaller than a Tennis Court divided by a net, but played with a lightweight shuttlecock, which has a lot of drag and the skill is to land it inside the marked boundaries of the court, and prevent their opponents from doing the same using long-handled, light-weight racquets. Speed, reaction, and endurance are important skills for the sport .

Basel, Switzerland: From Tango to Badminton
Monday March 10, 2008 I have to confess: I took badminton in college. Yes, it was that pesky physical education requirement that had to be met. I figured it was a sport for backyard bunglers. I had no idea Badminton had so many hangers-on. According to the Swiss Tourist Bureau, "In March, the elite of the badminton world meets in the St. Jakobshalle Basel for a super-series tournament. Over 20,000 spectators get behind the world's top 30 badminton players. You can find information on the web, of course:
