NEW! Cross Country 2005 Pictures Cross-country running is a sport that will challenge you, get you into shape, let you see the world, and achieve your highest goals. True, there is no guarantee on the last two points, but there certainly is on the first two. The season commences at the beginning of September and lasts until the middle of October. Zones take place at the beginning of October, and Provincials take place on the third Saturday of that month. We train on the Camrose Ski trails on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and use various methods to improve your running skills, including short sprint work, time trials, and long-distance training. Cross-country running is open to anyone from the serious racer to those who simply want to get in shape. The distances that you train for vary according to your age and gender: Junior (under 16 as of September 1 st Girls Boys Intermediate (under 17 as of September 1 st Girls Boys Senior (under 19 as of September 1 st Girls Boys This is not a sport for the faint-of-heart, but it does offer you personal challenges and rewards.

But maybe the most important these kids cheered for each other, supported each other and were an awsome team. We took the bus with another school and let me tell you, our Crowther kids' behaviour made the others look pretty brutal - they where polite and well behaved all day long. I got lots of comments to that effect. It was a pleasure to spend time with the students that you all have been working so hard with. The hard work definitely shows!

Juniper Ridge Jaguars Cross-Country Running This year, students attended four meets: OLPH hosted at McArthur Island, RLC in Barnartvale, Arthur Stevenson at Westsyde Centennial Park, and Pacific Way, where district finals were held. Congratulations to our cross-country running team who represented Juniper well with wonderful team spirit and great effort on the runs. Cross-country running practices are open for students in grades 3-7. Practices are held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 7:45 am, commencing in September. Students should be properly attired for the weather and have a water bottle. Parents are welcome to help in the mornings and will be required to transport students to runs after school. Due to the large number of students involved in these runs, it is imperative that permission slips be submitted IN ADVANCE of meets, so that driving schedules can be decided upon and last minute changes can be avoided. We left for Blakeston on the bus at lunchtime. When we arrived we found out what time our race was and we waited. I wasn't looking forward to my race because I don't really like long distance. We were called up to the starting line and when the whistle blew we started. The race was twice around a field and once around the football pitch. Even though the race was flat it was really muddy and hard. I finished 53rd which is not as good I normally do. I found it harder than usual but I felt proud that I had finished it.
