90. Mayfield Curling Club
Mayfield curling Club is Cleveland s only ice dedicated exclusively to curling.
http://www.mayfieldcurling.com/
In Cleveland, Ohio, the Mayfield Curling Club is on the Mayfield Campus of the Mayfield Sand Ridge Club, a traditional private membership club. It prides itself as being a family club providing social and recreational needs of its members through excellence in service and facilities. While many Mayfield Sand Ridge Club members curl the club also extends an attractive financial seasonal Curling Membership for those who wish to only curl.
Curling The great tradition of curling began in the 16th century in Scotland. It was originally played outdoors on frozen ponds and lochs. By the 20th century the game was being played indoors on refrigerated ice. Curling has become increasingly popular and has been an Olympic sport since 1998. Curling at The Mayfield Sand Ridge Club has been in existence since 1962, and its separate clubhouse and ice is dedicated exclusively to curling. Like golf, men and women of all ages curl for both recreation and competition. It is a game of about two hours duration that requires finesse and concentration instead of size and strength, and some aerobic exercise. Frequently after a game the social activity takes players to the main clubhouse for cocktails and dinner. There is also a formal dinner dance during the year and several less formal curling-related parties. Curling is easy to learn and is played in a social atmosphere allowing the opportunity to make many new friends. Mayfield curlers travel to other clubs, including some in Canada, for invitational events, called bonspiels, and competition, and other clubs come to Mayfield events.
