APRIL 2008 "We just flew in from the West Coast but our arms are not yet tired!" From left to right are Amanda Baker, Michelle Stacey, Jamie Alison and Maggie Amundson, each of whom compete in Zone 8, Region 1 but found themselves in Zone 4, Region 3 territory at a Pig Pickin' dinner party on Saturday night (Alison rides for the University of Nevada at Reno while the others compete for College of the Sequoias). Earlier in the day several of these riders took part in IHSA Semifinals in Laurinburg, North Carolina. Stanford University, the top western team in Zone 8, Region 1 finished second in the Laurinburg team competition, but the big surprise was who won and by how much! (Photo courtesy Teresa McDonald) It was a wild weekend for IHSA Western riders whose dreams were still alive, with cold, windy weather at two of the Semifinal locations. When all three Semifinals were completed the field of western teams for 2008 Nationals was set, with only four of them returnees from the 2007 team competition...
