Includes a padded stick, a rattan stick, a wooden training knife, and a collection of aluminum training knives. Eskrima or Escrima refers to a class of Filipino Martial Arts that emphasize stick and sword fighting. Other terms which have entered into common usage include Kali and Arnis de Mano (harness of the hand); occasionally the abbreviation FMA (Filipino Martial Arts) is used. Eskrima and Arnis are among the many names primarily used in the Philippines today to refer to these arts. The name Kali, although primarily used in the United States and Europe, is seldom used in the Philippines and in most cases is an unknown word. But due to the popularity of the term outside of the Philippines and the influence of foreign practitioners, the term Kali is increasingly being recognized and accepted in the Philippines. Kalis , as used in the Philippines, refers to a sword. It is commonly mistaken as synonymous to or a derivative form of kali (note: postfixing of "s" is not used in Filipino languages or dialects to indicate plurality). However, for all intents and purposes, Eskrima, Arnis, Arnis de Mano, Kali and FMA all refer to the same family of Filipino weapons-based martial arts.

Silat Seminar in Oakland - Sumatran Harimau
Sifu Donzella began his martial arts training in 1973 studying the Chinese/Indonesian art of Chuan-fa /Tjimande under the Liu Seong family name. The system was founded by Great Grand Master Willem Reeders. At the age of 4, GGM Reeders began his training in the Chinese arts under his great uncle Leong Liu Seong, and later under many silat teachers as well as Nes de Vries of the Serak system. With a Chinese Indonesian base, Sifu Dan Donzella expanded his knowledge in these arts over the years as well as adding Arnis , the Filipino arts.

Since 1980, when he first read Guru Dan Inosanto’s book, “The Filipino Martial Arts”, our President, Lynn C. Thompson, has diligently studied and trained in these disciplines. Lynn’s extensive sparing experiences, combined with his study and training had an immeasurable impact in shaping Cold Steel into the company it is today. Our brand new Cold Steel Escrima Stick resembles a traditional rattan stick in length, weight, and cross section, it is however, much more durable because it is injection molded from super tough black polypropylene. It measures 32” long and is 1” in diameter and weighs a little over 15 ounces. Unlike rattan, it resists mildew, and won’t dry out, warp, crack splinter or shrink, and with the use of a saw, it can easily be modified to any length. Plus, like our baseball bats, Bokken, and African Walking Stick, it is easy to clean and is so resistant to impact stresses and the elements, that it is virtually unbreakable and practically indestructible. We’re confident that stick fighting enthusiasts and the Filipino Martial Arts Community will want to add one or more of these sticks to their training arsenal. Specifications:
Weight: 15.6 oz.

http://www.seasite.niu.edu/tagalog/Modules/Modules/escrima/eskrima.htm
Source: Philippine Escrima History of Filipino Martial Arts The history of the Philippines stretches all the way back as far as 900 AD. Examining the history of the Philippines as a nation, it is clear that martial arts have always been an essential part of the Filipino society. Many different cultures and migrants influenced the martial arts of the Philippines, like in many other places. Settled in about 200 B.C by the Malays, in a first wave of migrations from the Southeast, they brought with them the weapon of the long knife. Although many weapons of different shapes and sizes were brought into the Philippines, the "Kris", a wavy bladed knife from the island of Java, was the first foreign weapon to be transplanted into the Filipino fighting arts. During the two more migrations that followed, these people were actually the ancestors of the present day Muslim-Filipinos of Mindanao and Sulu. In 1518, Ferdinand Magellan convinced King Charles I of Spain that the Moluccas, then known as the Spice Islands, could be reached by sailing west. Magellan told the king that the Moluccas belonged to the Spanish side of the demarcation line drawn according to the Treaty of Torsedillas. The king agreed to send an expedition to the Spice Islands under the command of Ferdinand Magellan. On September 20, 1519, the expedition sailed southward across the Atlantic Ocean. Magellan reached the southernmost tip of South America, where he crossed the Pacific Ocean strait, otherwise now known as the Magellan strait. On March of 1521, he finally reached the Marianas. After resting, his men and obtaining provisions, Magellan continued his voyage and, on March 17th, 1521, sighted the mountains of Samar, marking their arrival in the Philippine Archipelago.

Our Mission
To Teach the Martial Art's Wing Tzun, Latosa Escrima and it's concepts Philosophy as a way of life.
Wing Tzun grows out of the Taoist tradition in Chinese Philosophy - "Tao" means " The Way." It signifies life's eternal movement of growing, blooming, fading away, and never-ending renewal.
To achieve his unity with the Tao, man must become as the Tao: spontaneous, open, simple, and flexible - not hard and arrogant.
When using Wing Tzun Kung-Fu or Latosa Escrima in self-defense or applying its principles in every day life, one becomes like a river flowing to the sea. Even if a mountain obstructs the river's flow it will not be stopped It will reach its goal naturally, unavoidably, while overcoming all obstacles on the way.

http://www.escrimacenter.com/
News Programs Qualifications Gallery ... Links The martial art called " Escrima ", at its core, has developed from the ancient art of sword fighting which evolved as far back as the stone ages. Centuries ago, the people of the Philippines used highly developed sword fighting skills and weapons such as the Kris, Bolo and Kampilan to defend themselves against Spanish conquistadors. Though the filipino fighters were defeated, the Spanish were impressed enough with their sword techniques that they named this fighting style " Escrima " and its fighters " Escrimadors ". During this following period of Spanish colonization, the practise of Escrima was outlawed. In order to carry on the techniques and tradition of this martial art, the villagers incorporated its methods, movements and techniques into dances, with sticks or empty hands replacing the swords. Many important techniques were preserved through this incorporation and remain an integral part of Escrima practice today, such as corto mano (short distance combat), larga mano (long distance combat), stilo de elastico and moro (very powerful low fighting styles), stilo de escapo (escape style), and stilo de abaniko corto (short twisting style) Escrima today has developed from a complex combination of fighting with blades, with sticks and with empty hands.

Escrima Sticks
Escrima sticks are made in many different styles. They can be tradtional skinned or skinless rattan sticks. This is the original fashion. There are also varieties made of very dense and heavy cocobolo wood. Derivitive materials can also be used to make escrima sticks. The very heavy escrima sticks are good for training and real combat. The skinless rattan sticks are good for training combat. The skinned rattan sticks are ideal for stick on stick practice. Filipino Kali is the art of stick fighting.
