Five-pin bowling is a bowling variant which is only played in Canada , where many bowling alleys offer it, either alone or in combination with ten-pin bowling . It was devised around 1909 by Thomas F. Ryan in Toronto, Ontario , at his Toronto Bowling Club , in response to customers who complained that the ten-pin game was too strenuous. He cut five tenpins down to about 75% of their size, and used hand-sized hard rubber balls, thus inventing the original version of five-pin bowling.

The balls in five-pin are small enough to fit in the hand and therefore have no fingerholes. At the end of the lane there are five pins arranged in a V. In size they are midway between duckpins and ten-pins, and they have a heavy rubber band around their middles to make them move farther when struck. The centre pin is worth five points if knocked down, those on either side, three each, and the outermost pins, two each, giving a total of 15 in each frame.

Did it look they might make repairs or even widen the Lane (too narrow to be called a road) that leads back there? While the old facilities were good, the bumpy driveway to get back there was horrible and embarrassing to use when you had out-of-towners. The also had no real signage saying the bowling alley was back there. When I first moved to town, it took me quite awhile to figure out that is where it was located. I hope they correct that problem too.

They need a new sign at Capital Circle too.

Candlepins is just frustrating......but there is a challenge using the wood to try and make a spare.
That match I posted the bowler was deader than a team down 0-3 in the playoffs and losing in the ninth....in candlepins you just can't make that much ground back Iwritecode 11-27-2007, 12:00 PM Candlepins is just frustrating......but there is a challenge using the wood to try and make a spare.

Obviously getting a strike is a pretty rare occurence. Getting 3 in a row is pretty much a miracle.

Homemade Bowling in Your Basement: Surefire Cure for Cabin Fever
Check out this homemade bowling alley, a clever setup consisting of lengths of very strong string, a few pieces of wood, and of course, bowling pins and a heavy ball. Those of us living here in the frozen tundra who are intimately acquainted with the sport of tenpins have a hint for this creative basement bowler: there are 10 pins, not five. Nevertheless, quite a resourceful idea. Build A Bowling Alley In Your Living Room [The Uber Review] Read More:

Five-pin bowling
From Biocrawler
Five-pin bowling is a variation on ten-pin bowling which is popular in Canada , where most bowling alleys offer it, either alone or in combination with ten-pin bowling. It was devised in the early twentieth century to offer bowlers the chance to play a game during a half-hour lunch break. This goal was achieved by using smaller balls which travel faster than ten-pin balls and which can be thrown in rapid succession. Five-pin bowling was invented in by Thomas F. Ryan in Toronto, Ontario The balls in five-pin are small enough to fit in the hand and therefore have no fingerholes. There are, naturally, five pins, arranged in a V. In size they are midway between duckpins and ten-pins, and they have a heavy rubber band around their middles to make them move farther when struck. The centre pin is worth five points if knocked down, those either side, three each, and the outermost pins, two each, giving a total of fifteen for the lot. In each frame , each player gets three attempts to knock all five pins over. Knocking all five pins down with the first ball is a strike, which means the score achieved by the player's first two balls of the next frame or frames are added to his or her score for the strike. They are also, of course, counted in their own frames, so in effect they count double. A player who takes two balls to knock all the pins down gets a spare, which means the first ball of the next frame counts double. As in ten-pin, if either of these happen in the last frame, the player gets to take one or two shots at a re-racked set of pins immediately. A perfect score is 450, which is probably attained less frequently than perfect tenpin scores are.

It turned out she DID like peas!
Rachel came running downstairs after her bath yelling about how there was an asparagus in disguise in her bathtub and not only that, there was popcorn all over the mirror. We have no clue where she gets some of her ideas!
She arrived at the dinner table and was excited to see the food, but the first thing she said was that she didn't like green things. I had intentionally given her mostly carrots in the mixed veggies along with maybe 3 peas and a couple pieces of corn. Rachel worked her way through the chicken and rice (aka silly elephant food! Don't ask why, I really couldn't tell you why I told her that one day!) and started to eat the carrots. I requested that she eat one "green thing" and she began to argue that she would prefer a yellow thing. She ate some corn and asked if it was popcorn. Um, no.
She's also extrapolating from her dinner experience that maybe she should try all of the warm-up activities at the gym next week because even though she thought she wouldn't like them (and didn't do them today) she might like them if she tried them!
