Unfortunately, its been a few years since I have been out on most of these trails (2002 and part of 2003 off sailing the Pacific coast of Mexico and Central America, followed by the birth of our daughter in 2004) so my descriptions are getting a little old. The basic trail information is probably still accurate in most cases, but don't be surprised if you run into changed conditions. If you do find inaccuracies I would appreciate it if you would email me at andyflach@yahoo.com
Help make wilderness more popular. Please take your friends, and especially your children, for walks on local trails as often as you can. Lets make the wilderness a part of people's daily lives and not just something that they watch on the Discovery Channel, gawk at in National Parks, or read about in magazines.
Please send me any comments or questions, and have fun out there!

Welcome to our newest member, Peak to Peak Trail and Wilderness Links Pay attention you dirt bag sissies, I'm here to make you a REAL HIKER! Actually I'm trying to capture some of the things I've learned about hiking and backpacking in a place to share them. Hope you find something here you can use. Let me know if you have any suggestions. I will try things before putting them up. I only want to present information that I have used and that is helpful.
Sitting home recovering
Apr 03, 2008 - 9:14 AM - by SGT Rock In case you haven't heard, I'm off the trail with a bum ankle injury. Monday I made a little over 5 miles, Tuesday I made a little over 4 miles, and at that point I decided to get it looked at. Yesterday the doc said I have tendinitus, a sprain, and most likely stress fractures. I'm waiting on the results of the x-rays. Chances are good my hike is done for now. I can sit around waiting to heal and get back on and burn up my hike savings, or I can get a job and start saving for a later long section hike. I'd really like to hike on but I also have to face some reality. I made a little over 800 miles and had a good time, I'd rather end on a high note.

Home The Hikes One Day Must See Hike Map Hazards ... Contact l pais grande del sur , or the big country to the south is how Big Sur was first described by Spanish settlers from the Monterey area. It is one of those rare places that is wild and remote, yet easy to access and explore. While there are miles of trails for the dedicated hiker and backpacker, Big Sur also offers spectacular scenery within steps of Highway 1. And for those willing to hike a few miles, the rewards include rapidly changing settings of oak and lush redwood forests, ocean views, rocky streams, and coastal brush. This web site is a collection of favorite day hikes, both easy and challenging, sorted by scenic appeal and personal bias. Having hiked in Big Sur for over 30 years, it's a neverending treat to bring visitors in for a day or two. The question quickly arises: "which hikes are a must-see while we're here?" Not an easy one to answer, since everyone has different preferences. But there are a few spots the first time visitor needs to see, and a handful of hikes the persistent visitor won't want to miss. If you only have one day to see the sights, take a look at the
