Tuesday, May 15, 2007 Adventures in Inner Tubing (Go Inner Tubing Day) A long time ago my parents took one of my friends and me to Dover Lake Water Park. It was a little intimidating at first to see tall, loopy water slides. I knew how to swim by then, but I was still a little hesitant. Not for long, though. My friend and I would hike up to the slides and then slide right back down, into the swirling mass of chlorine, water, and flailing arms. By the end of the day, the two of us were sunburned beyond the ability to move, but it was a very memorable and fun day. My parents didn't have as much fun, although my mom did get a kick out of us going up and down the slides like we were on a mission. My dad, however, lost his desire to go to any water park ever again. There was one huge slide that everyone went down with inner tubes. The first hill was a doozy...very slippery and steep. It was a slippery slope, my friends. Hehe. We must've begged my dad to go down it with us. He didn't want to, but decided anyway. He didn't want to have any of his personal belongings locked up in one of the lockers the park offered. So he put his pack of cigarettes in one of his shirt pockets, and he wore his red baseball hat (he was totally devoted to wearing that hat as much as possible, even to funerals) and plastic, alien-invader type sunglasses. I think he put the car keys in another pocket. People warned him to hang on for the first hill. He didn't quite listen and went down into the swirling pool of water. He lost his sunglasses, soaked his cigarettes, I imagine he lost the car keys but found them later on, and his hat got soaked. Humiliated, he sat on a picnic table and smoked for the rest of the day.

I just got back from the Killary Adventure Center, which is on the northwest coast of Ireland. It is an organized center for people (mainly tourists) to do some outdoorsy things in the countryside of Ireland. I was there for three nights, and got to do a lot of amazing things while I was there, but now I'm completely spent and looking forward to a nice sleep in my bed tonight. Arcadia arranged a bus to pick us up from Deanshall at noon, and it was a 6 hour ride to get up to Killary. It was a long ride, but the scenary was absolutely beautiful towards the end of the journey. It reminded a lot of the drive up the 5 highway back at home - a lot of mountains and greenery. The main difference was the presence of huge, tranquil lakes and a gazillion sheep everywhere! I didn't get to take many pictures because I was stuck on the bus the entire time.
