Balls are usually hollow and spherical but can be other shapes, such as ovoid (only in a few special cases) or solid (as in billiards) and flat (as in ice hockey). In most games using balls, the play of the game follows the state of the ball as it is hit, kicked, or thrown by players. Balls are often used in ball dropping functions such as in the famous Times Square New Year's Eve ceremony. Since 1984, the AFL International Rules between Australia and Ireland has rocked !
Even before the launch of the Foster's International Rules series, almost half the tickets for the Perth Test had already been sold. More than 18,000 tickets for the Perth clash had already been snapped up by West Coast and Fremantle members and the game shoul easily draw 40,000+.
Nearly 100,000 people saw the two games last time they were in Australia when we won the serires in 2003, and just as many attended the last series at Croke Park in Ireland when they won. The MCG game in 2003 drew 60,235 and the game delivered a thriller. The Telstra Dome game is almost guaranteed to sell out.
With the Essendon's Kevin Sheedy as coach and the best players from Australia keen to erase memories of last year's humiliating series in Ireland - this series promises to be a ripper.
Should be televised live in WA, SA and Vic, and for those who haven't seen the code, it is a great sport in it's own right, combining toughness, speed and skill.
