Judo is back on campus!
RPI Judo has gotten a fresh start here on campus! Welcome to Sensei Noriyasu Kudo. Kudo Sensei is a 7th degree black belt (out of 10), originally born in Japan. Kudo Sensei was the first Judo instructor here at RPI and has returned to teach again! We practice Monday and Thursday from 8-10pm upstairs in the Mueller Center. We had a great first practice for the spring semester, lots of new people (and more girls)! Please feel free to join us, even if you're a beginner!
Some Notes from Jeff, our President:
About Gi's (Uniforms)
You will need a gi to practice Judo. They historically have cost $50 for everything you need. If you have a judogi already you can, of course, wear that one. Until you get your gi, please wear clothes without rivets or zippers (long pants preferred). Your clothes will get pulled on so don't wear anything you wouldn't want to have stretch. Jewelry is also a hazard when rolling around on the mats. We will be putting in a bulk order for gis within the next few weeks. Etiquette
Since Kudo Sensei is a more traditional Japanese judoka, he is more attached to formalities than other instructors from the states. It would be considered fine to call him "Sensei Kudo" (like Prof. Smith) or "Kudo Sensei" (ordered like in traditional Japanese, preferred) or just "Sensei". Kudo Sensei will expect us to have the mats set up and be most of the way done with, if not done with, our warm-up when he arrives for the 8pm class. If everyone could get there by 7:40pm for now to set up the mats it would help a lot. We should try to start a warm-up before 8pm at the latest.

FEATURED NORWALK JUDO STUDENT (Cameron regularly attends practice. He competes in many tournaments and displays a competitive streak.) My name is Cameron Gonzales and I go to the Norwalk Judo Club. I am 12 years old and I just graduated from the 6 th grade. One of my most favorite things about doing judo is teaching some of the little kids techniques for throwing or doing mat work. If you keep on doing them, they start to be a real pain in the neck. I enjoy judo because it not only helps you get stronger, but it teaches you self discipline to be a better person. This is why I do judo. Aside from judo, I have other hobbies I enjoy. I love to play baseball, watch baseball, and talk about baseball. I also love to listen to rock music in my spare time, and hang out with my friends any chance I get.

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008 First, this is the best Wow throw of all time..
Introduction
I forgot how high and dry Colorado is. I worked out this morning on the elliptical machine (because all of the treadmills were occupied in the hotel workout room) and I did a cool 30 minutes on the elliptical followed by some light lifting on the legs. The 27 miles that I completed this weekend is still kicking me in the arse, but I can handle it. I caught the plane from Fort Lauderdale to Denver with a small layover in Atlanta at 5:40am.  I love catching early morning flights. So I arrived in Denver, called up the guys from American Top Team at met them at the hotel.

The San Jose Buddhist Judo Club is one of the oldest and most reputable Judo clubs in the Bay Area. It was established in 1947 and has produced many champions and outstanding students. The students have learned to use the disciplines of Judo to perfect themselves, to cultivate trust and respect from others, and to become a value to society. Our club sensei (instructors) are volunteers and are not paid for the many hours of work they teach our students. Among the instructors are many years of experience and expertise. They are well qualified to teach and share not just attack and defense techniques, but all aspects of Judo. The San Jose Buddhist Judo Club is currently recognized by the USJF as being the second largest Dojo in the United States with 219 members.
