One week before he is to announce his college destination, Thaddeus Young told The Commercial Appeal late Sunday that the University of Memphis remains an option, despite his father proclaiming otherwise
"Right now, it's Memphis, Kentucky, Georgia Tech and Arkansas," Young said. "I've cut it down to four."
Young's clarification came only minutes after his father, Felton Young, told The Commercial Appeal in a separate interview that the Mitchell High star had eliminated Memphis from consideration. Asked why, Felton Young answered, "He would like to go out of town. That's the discussion with me."
So to recap:
Felton Young insisted the UofM is no longer an option. Thaddeus said it is.
The confusion?
According to Thaddeus, it's racially motivated. "My Dad, he kind of wants me to play for a black coach," Thaddeus said. "But that doesn't really matter to me." Kentucky, Arkansas and Georgia Tech the only three schools Felton Young said his son is still considering are all led by black coaches, namely Tubby Smith, Stan Heath and Paul Hewitt. Memphis is coached by John Calipari, who, of course, is white.

Nice to see that Mr. "He HAS to get out of Memphis... but not until he wins me a state championship" got told to shut the fuck up and sit the fuck down.
"It's my decision," Williams added. "I thought I should get out of town. But then I started thinking, 'Why should I leave?' I don't want to leave. I don't have a reason to leave."
That last statement is one Anderson disagrees with whole-heartily, so much so that he's strongly advised his top talent to mark Memphis off his list.
Anderson said previously that because Williams wasn't living with either of his parents he was essentially "not in the best situation" and needed "to get out of town like no other (he's) ever had."
Williams, on Wednesday, said he respected his coach's thoughts. But the recent Best of the Preps Finalist claimed his situation isn't "that bad" and that he'd be fine at Memphis.
"Coach wants me to go to Arkansas, but he's not going to be the one up there," Williams said. "I'm going to be the one up there going to school. And I might not like it there. So I don't want to go there."

11/20/03: "All the drama about whether or not Shawne Williams would sign or not came to pass. He sat down yesterday morning at Hamilton High School and put his "John Hancock" on his LOI, and promptly submitted it to Memphis." - HoopMasters.com
11/18/03: "Hamilton star Shawne Williams told The Commercial Appeal late Monday he is "90 percent certain" he will sign with the University of Memphis on Wednesday. Williams, a 6-9 senior forward regarded as one of the nation's top 20 basketball players, had earlier backed out of a July commitment to the U of M, saying he wanted to take some visits.
Now, after wavering most of the past two weeks, it appears Williams is ready to put an end to his recruitment. "I believe I'm going to sign with Memphis on Wednesday," he said. "We've been talking to some (other schools), but my heart is here. . . . I'm 90 percent certain I'll sign with Memphis."
Williams said he has been in contact with Kansas

November 12, 2005
Just three days ago, he was named a finalist for Class 2A's Mr. Football lineman of the year award. But on Friday at Whitehaven, Huntingdon's Chris Donald looked more like a back of the year candidate, rumbling for a ridiculous 284 yards and three touchdowns to lift the visiting Mustangs to a 41-22 win over Carver in the second round of the Class 2A state playoffs. Donald, a 6-2, 210-pound junior who added a 59-yard fourth-quarter touchdown reception from Mustang junior quarterback Cody Crocker, scored three of his four touchdowns in the second half to break open what had been a 6-6 game at the break. "Coach (Mike Mansfield) told us at halftime it was win or go home. He told us to leave everything on the field, and we did that," Donald said.
