Sail With Us!
We're a University of Michigan student organization, open to the public. Our members are students, faculty, staff, alumni, and many others in SE Michigan who love to sail and windsurf. Join us at our waterfront clubhouse in Dexter, and meet friendly new people while enjoying the sport of sailing - over spring, summer and fall. We offer a unique and affordable opportunity to learn and practice the art of sailing. Originally founded (in 1938) to provide sailing facilities for a small group of naval architects, our primary mission now is to develop our members' skills in all aspects of sailing. For the beginner, there is instruction. For the more advanced, there are advanced clinics, racing, teaching, boat repair, and the use of trapeze and spinnaker equipment. Come to Baseline Lake and try us out! Your first two visits are free of charge or obligation. The only prerequisite to participating in club activities (including lessons, racing and more), is that you know how to swim. If you're new to sailing, we recommend that you begin by visiting the club on a Saturday morning anytime between 9 AM and Noon, and sample our sailing or windsurfing instruction. No reservations or advance notice needed. If you're familiar with sailing and want to know more about the club, stop by any weekend (or weekday afternoon after 6:30 PM, in summer) to check out our fleet and facilities. Don't forget to look at our calendar to see what special events may be going on this week.

Sailing Ships
Very welcome to the Sailing Ships WWW site! I hope you will find it interesting and informative. It has been online since 15 October 1996. The main part of this site is a database of historical sailing vessels, with technical data as well as ``biographical'' information on individual vessels. The aim is to have a comprehensive listing of 19th and 20th century square riggers. Please browse the database by following the links in the sidebar! You will also find articles covering various topics relevant to square riggers, complementing the texts in the vessel ``biographies.'' This site is always a work in progress. I am maintaining the site entirely on my spare time, so it will naturally progress slower at some times and quicker at others. You can help me with this task in several ways:
  • Inform me of any errors you may find , be they factual, linguistic, typographical, or whatever.
  • If you have written an article on a matter relevant to the Sailing Ships pages, please consider letting me include it on this site.
  • If you have more details about some vessel in the database, or information about a vessel not found there, please email me.
