THE RISE AND FALL OF THE WING CHUN (VING TSUN) FAMILY? Prior to his death in 1972, Yip Man had stopped teaching but was consulted about Wing Chun. He had a hard life in the early years in Hong Kong but in his old age some rich students like Dung Sing and Chan Jee Chu, police detectives of The Hong Kong Royal Police, began to support him. He was considered the head of the Wing Chun family and had a few good years before his death. Unfortunately, he did not name a successor to carry on the leadership of Wing Chun. It is possible that he had not found anyone he liked, may never have found anyone who was worthy, or he was just not concerned with the issue at that late stage of his life. Whatever the reasons Grand Master Yip Man was truly the last Grand Master of the style. After his death and as time passed family members began to realize that they were on their own. Wing Chun today is a very big family with schools all over the world. Any successful organization needs a leader to unite everyone and to help everyone work together. For a variety of reasons, those heirs and students of Yip Man who would be most qualified to unite and lead us have either been unwilling or unable to do so. SiFu Duncan Leung ENTER SiFu Duncan Leung is a disciple of the Wing Chun Grand Master Yip Man, and a former classmate of Bruce Lee. He has been teaching Wing Chun in the United States for more than twenty years. This included teaching the United States FBI, the Navy Seals, and various Police Institutions. SiFu Leung currently teaches at his school in Virginia Beach, VA. His unique training methods provide the students with a proper understanding and instruction in the art of Wing Chun Kung Fu. His training methods also allow his students to gain better fighting skills through the use of Wing Chun in real fighting situations. User: (no userpics) Name: Yim Wing Chun Website: Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu Location: Detroit-Area Michigan United States About: The origin of Wing Chun Kung Fu can be found in the turbulent, repressive Ching (Manchurian) dynasty of over 250 years ago. It was a time when 90% of the Chinese race, the Hans, were ruled by the 10 minority, the Manchurians. The Manchurians treated the Hans unjustly. For instance, all the female Han infants were made to bind their feet so that when they grew up they would be dependent upon their parents or husband. Men were made to shave the front of their heads and were forced to wear a pigtail (queue) to distinguish them as Han males not Manchurian. The work opportunity of the Hans was also restricted. They were not allowed to hold a position above a certain level in the Government. Heavy tax burdens were placed on the country, so that the Manchurians could have economic control of the Han people. Kung fu training was also banned for the Hans, however the Manchurian Government was adopting the Han culture. The Manchurians respected the Shaolin Temple as a Buddhist sanctuary, since the Manchurians were Buddhists as well.

He trained from age thirteen to age eighteen in this system. JKD's Founder was fortunate enough to be able to train with Grandmaster Yip Man and two of his most dedicated students, Wong Shun Leung and Chung Chuk Hing (William Cheung). Wing Chun Gung Fu basically forms the foundation of Jeet Kune Do! Modified Gung Fu, which is the name of what JKD's Founder taught when he first came to the United States, is basically a slightly modified approach to Wing Chun Gung Fu! There are those who train in Jeet Kune Do and Jeet Kune Do concepts today who claim that Wing Chun is not that important to our structure! Those practitioners don't know what they are talking about! Wing_Chun for Health, Family and Fun! Today, I am introducing Wing_Chun as part of "The Healthy Lifestyle" theme. In doing so I decided to take some photos of our Sifu's (Albert Chew) Mont Kiara Wing Chun martial arts class. Here is a photo showing a combo block, low kick with simultaneous strike. followed by a sensitivity (Chi Sau) exercise. When done correctly, one can perform this drill blindfolded or with closed eyes. As seen in the following photo! Sifu Albert Chew and his senior student Alex demonstrating Chi Sau with eyes closed. (Some of you may remember the late GrandMaster Yip Man's student; the late Bruce Lee performing this!) Since Wing Chun was first developed by a female Buddist Nun; it is ideal for women as it does not rely on brute strength... But on the economy of movement!
