According to the NCSA, Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA and JC have more than 40,000 coaches at 1,700 schools in all 50 states and in more than 30 sports all with available sports scholarships.
While recruiters from some NCAA Division I schools have the budgets to actually visit promising young athletes, Division II and III schools rely on videos to evaluate the budding collegiate sports stars.
The opportunity to play college sports keeps alive the dream of playing professionally. The competition to get into a high-profile college program is fierce. One of the best tools to expose high school players to college recruiters is video.
Parents can pay a pricey sports promotion company to videotape their sons or daughters and send the video to colleges, they can take on all the marketing and video production themselves, or they can do themselves and their children a favor and hire  EZ Productions  to make a DVD that shows the players in all the sharpness and clarity they deserve.

High school is a time to make friends, get good grades, participate in activities and prepare for the future. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts, some schools have opted out of high school sports , believing that money would be better spent on academics. I understand that academics come first, but sacrificing high school sports lessens every child's high school experience, their ability to perform at optimum academic levels and develop into a well-rounded adult.
The Importance of High School Sports Can Be Found in Elementary School
During a child's elementary school years, children typically lose their recess privileges as a consequence to poor behavior. This consequence can have the opposite of the desired effect. Recess is the place where kids let out their aggression and release frustration and anger, allowing the children to better cope with the aspects of school they do not enjoy.

You may have noticed (or not) that I haven’t posted in quite some time. Two factors play into this. 1) This sports blog has now been blocked by websense at school, thus limiting my time that I normally blog; and 2) I have been running non-stop taking a pep band through the playoff season of our high school basketball team. It’s number 2 that I would like to expound on a bit here. I want to describe the events of the past month here in generic terms…I don’t think that our situation is all that unique. So, let me give you general information about the program. I teach in a small rural school, and the pep band is made up of approximately 30 students grades 7-12. Some live close to school, others as much as an hour away. Friday brought the next game. Again, an hour bus ride took us to the site. The boys lost a heartbreaker, ending their season. Saturday brought the girls regional championship. It was a very fun event, for me particularly. Our team played against a school I formerly taught at before coming to my present position. The band director there was a student of mine when I taught there, and the 2 seniors in his band were students I started as fifth graders my last year there. At halftime, we combined the two bands and played 3 songs together. The kids loved the big powerful sound, and I loved the sentimentality of it all. Our girls team won, sending them to the state tournament as the top seed.

Minnesota may have some unusual and often funny high school nicknames (Aitkin Gobblers , Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms , Roosevelt Teddies , Minnetonka Skippers and Moorhead Spuds ) for their sports teams, but compared to high schools in other states, we are downright boring. Here is a list of some of the more interesting names we found:
Alabama - Sidney Lanier Poets (Sure, if you count Jeff Foxworthy as a poet.)
Arizona - Yuma Criminals (The official high school of the Cincinnati Bengals.)
Arkansas - Ozark Hillbillies (That sounds about right.), Smackover Buckaroos (Gee Pa, Aunt Bee made peas again?)
California - San Benito Hay Balers (Euphemisms galore - Part I.), Hollywood Shieks (Sounds more like the name for a strip club than a high school sports team.), John Marshall Barristers (The only kids in America who know the definition of the word tort.), Yuba City Honkers (The girl voted most popular in her class definitely earned the distinction.)
Colorado - Clear Creek Golddiggers (Who can blame them; have you seen what the minimum wage is lately?)

Concordia High School athletes compete in three sports seasons: fall volleyball, winter basketball and spring soccer. Whatever the season, Concordia's athletic teams have experienced tremendous success. In the 2005-06 school year, for instance, teams brought home five championship and three runner-up trophies. As members of ACAMIS (Association of China and Mongolia International Schools), teams compete against other Shanghai international and Chinese high schools throughout each season. In the 2005-06 school year, teams began official conference play within Shanghai with the formation of the Shanghai International Schools Athletic Conference (SISAC), of which Concordia was a founding member. Each season concludes with the national ACAMIS and Shanghai's SISAC tournaments, hosted by one of the member schools. ACAMIS tournaments present travel opportunities for the select teams to such cities as Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Beijing and Tianjin. Concordia students occasionally have the home field advantage when Concordia hosts the tournament. Campus comes alive as games fill both gymnasia - High School and Middle School - and fans closely follow tournament play. Concordia's sports facilities are the envy of other China international schools. Teams practice and play on the school's internationally sized soccer field and in the excellently equipped High School gymnasium, featuring two full-size basketball courts, pull-out bleachers and fully furnished locker rooms. The Middle School's gymnasium - the Phoenix Center - provides an additional basketball court.
