Overview
This A Level is currently being revised for first teaching in September 2008. View the specification and sample assessment materials This course takes a multi-disciplinary approach, encouraging the development of different methods of enquiry, with the focal point being the performer and the performance. The course is based on the interaction between the theory and practice of Physical Education. Before candidates start this course, it would be helpful for them to have studied GCSE Physical Education. The intention is to extend knowledge brought from Key Stage 4 and GCSE to an Advanced level. Candidates cover a diverse foundation programme at AS with opportunities for staged assessment. For those who wish, AS is followed by a more demanding and qualitative requirement at A2, where study of modules 2566 and 2567 leads to synoptic assessment involving the integration of knowledge across different areas of the subject. The specification aims to provide candidates with the knowledge and understanding to improve their own level of performance. Candidates choose two activities at AS and A2 from an extensive range which includes athletics, football tennis, golf, mountain walking, sailing and skiing.

    The Physical Education Program
Participation in physical activities, including physical education classes, recreational programs, and intercollegiate athletics, is an essential part of the educational experience at the University. The center for all indoor health, physical education, and recreation is Goolrick Hall. A modern 74,000 square-foot building, it has courts for basketball, badminton, volleyball, handball/racquetball, two dance studios, a 6-lane, 25-yard swimming pool, a weight training room, classrooms, and an auxiliary gym for individual exercise and recreation. A new 15,000 square foot fitness/Wellness Center was attached to Goolrick in January of 2004. The outdoor facilities include fields for baseball, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, flag football, softball, and rugby, running trails, an 8-lane, 400-meter rubaturf track, and a 12-court lighted tennis complex. A new 6 court Indoor Tennis Center was opened in september of 2005.
