PI hexapods have been used in microwave antenna alignment applications. During the last 15 years PI has designed several large-aperture tip/tilt systems for image stabilization. Piezoelectrically-driven active secondary mirrors can improve the effective resolution up to 1000% by correcting for these image shifts in real time, especially during long integrations with weak light sources. Orville Wright was a charter member of the NACA's executive committee and the hero of most NACA engineers.
Put into operation at Langley in 1922, the Variable Density Tunnel was the first pressurized wind tunnel in the world. It could achieve more realistic effects than any previous wind tunnel in predicting how actual aircraft would perform under flight conditions. Today it is a National Historic Landmark.

Linden Lab to roll out new physics engine this week Sunday, March 30, 2008 This weekend, Linden Lab announced plans to roll out the long-awaited Havok 4 physics engine across the grid. As soon as Monday, up to 2000 regions will have their simulator code updated to include Havok 4. If all goes well, the rest of the grid should see the new physics engine by Tuesday. The implementation of Havok 4 in Second Life is expected to vastly reduce the number of region crashes and incidents of "deep think" a state where the simulator is simply overloaded by physics calculations and slows to a dead crawl. It also means that most items that rely on physics, including vehicles and skydiving equipment, may or may not work correctly starting this week.

The Aeronautics Division is responsible for the historical research and collecting activities of the National Air and Space Museum related to all aspects of flight in the atmosphere. The goal of the division is to preserve, document, and interpret the history of aeronautical technology within a broad and appropriate political, economic, and social context. As part of this responsibility, the division acquires, documents, and maintains a collection of historically significant artifacts for public exhibition, study, and reference. Staff members conduct historical research leading toward scholarly and popular publications, exhibitions, lectures, seminars, and other forms of public presentation. Staff members also respond to a broad range of requests from the public on matters related to the history of aeronautics.
The Aeronautics Division co-manages with the Space History Division the Smithsonian History of Aviation and Spaceflight Series. The series seeks to publish substantive works that further our understanding of the transformation aviation and spaceflight have brought about in our livesour conceptions of time and distance, our daily routines and popular culture, and the conduct of exploration, business, and warin their social, cultural, political, and military contexts.
