Some two billion people have no access to modern energy services. The challenge lies in finding ways to reconcile this necessity and demand for energy with its impact on the natural resource base in order to ensure that sustainable development goals are realized. The Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) fourteenth session in 2006 and fifteenth session in 2007 focused on a cluster of thematic issues, which included Energy for Sustainable Development Industrial Development Air pollution/ Atmosphere ; and Climate Change The Johannesburg Plan of Implementation (JPOI), adopted at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002, addresses energy in the context of sustainable development. Among other things, the JPOI calls for action to:
  • Improve access to reliable, affordable, economically viable, socially acceptable and environmentally sound energy services -

An interesting thing about the final speed of an object descending (with no friction) from some given height h , along a sloping surface: one can change the slope, one can even change the shape of the surfaceyet the final speed v with which it reaches the bottom will always be the same. If it were not for friction, any skier gliding down a snowy hill from the summit to the base should arrive with the same speed (though not necessarily in the same time!) , whether the path taken is the easy beginner's slope or the steep experts-only route. Reducing the slope of the surface reduces the acceleration a, but it also lengthens the time of descent, and these two variations cancel, leaving the final speed unchanged. The same speed is also obtained if the object falls vertically from that height h , and in that case it is easily derived, as follows. The duration

Cut Oil Demand: 50% by 2020
That means reducing oil imports from around 65% to 10-15%. We can do this in part by getting the 100 mile per gallon (mpg) car into the marketplace. We must work to double the Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards, or CAFE, to 50 mpg by 2020. And we will set a life-cycle low-carbon fuel standard that reduces the carbon impact of our liquid fuels by 30% by 2020.
Create New Efficiencies And Energy Sources in the Electrical Sector: 50% by 2040
I am calling for a national renewable portfolio standard of 30% by 2020 that will rise to 50% by 2040. This is aggressive, but necessary as we start using more electricity for automobiles. I will push for an energy productivity law requiring a 20% improvement in energy productivity by 2020. We could save customers $21 billion a year by 2020.

35. Energy
The water is said to possess kinetic energy since it is moving. It gets this energy because it is falling through a gravitational field.
http://id.mind.net/~zona/mstm/physics/mechanics/energy/energy.html
The Physics Department - Mechanics, Energy Energy is defined as the ability to do work. Work is defined as the transfer of energy. The above picture shows water rushing downstream during a flood. The water is said to possess kinetic energy since it is moving. It gets this energy because it is falling through a gravitational field. As it falls, energy in the gravitational field comes out of storage and is used to move the water. The water has energy, that is, kinetic energy, so, it has the ability to do work. Work on an object occurs when a force is applied to the object, and the object is displaced as a result of the action of this force. This causes energy to be transferred to the object. The water is doing work on the plants and the soil on the banks of the creek. It is pushing on the soil and forcing it downstream. The water is also pushing, and thus uprooting, some of the smaller trees and washing them downstream. So, energy in the gravitational field comes out of storage and is given to the water. This energy is realized as the kinetic energy of the water. Since the water has energy, it has the ability to do work. And the water is doing work. It is placing forces on the soil and the trees and washing them away. So, the soil and the trees are having work done on them, that is, they are having energy transferred to them. The energy transferred to them shows up as their kinetic energy. They have this kinetic energy since they end up moving as a result of work being done on them.

what makes the world go 'round... Energy is often defined as "the ability to do work," and Energy makes the world go around, you might say. Let's use the definition that energy is " that which can change the motion, physical composition or temperature of an object ." And let's define power as " the flow of energy, from one form to another, over time Does your everyday understanding of energy fit these definitions? Understanding the amount of energy needed for various activities and how energy is transformed from one state to another helps us produce, use and save energy more efficiently. The unit of energy with which you are probably most familiar is the calorie. First, please look at the definition of a calorie . Now look at how much energy is needed to do various things with with 1 gram of water There are many different states of energy: nuclear energy, chemical energy, potential and kinetic energy, to name a few.
