Peru needs the economic services from tourism. The question is will the ruins of Machu Picchu be safe? Machu Picchu is a glorious place to see and reflect. If the new hotel can encourage more people to visit the ruins, then it may be okay. If however, the ruins will not be geological safe, then there's no question, the construction of the hotel complex should be stopped. I question the projected number of visitors to the ruins. It has been estimated that as many as 4000 per day may visit! I believe this number is several times what can be allowed, should be less than 1,000. The high altitude places physical restrictions on visitors to the mountainous area.
