The inompleteness theorem states that a formal axiomatic system must be either incomplete, if it is consistent, or inconsistent if it is complete. Developed in mathematical logic G¶del's incompleteness theorems are two celebrated theorems about the limitations of formal systems proved by Kurt G¶del in . These theorems show that there is no complete, consistent formal system that correctly describes the natural numbers, and that no sufficiently strong system describing the natural numbers can prove its own consistency. These theorems are widely regarded as showing that Hilbert's program to find a complete and consistent set of axioms for all of mathematics is impossible. The theorems have also been interpreted in philosophy and popular culture . It's direct implications fro free eenrgy research is that perpetual motion may be possible. Perpetual motion is constant change. Table of contents showTocToggle("show","hide") 1 First incompleteness theorem

He proved it by the diagonalization method , forming a diagonal string of comments of "we should end this discussion now" entries. This result was later improved on by repeatedly adding of "Shut up". Example of the diagonalization method Shut up UserA Shut up UserB Shut up UserA Shut up UserB Shut up UserA Shut up UserB Shut up UserA Shut up UserB etc. In Europe , a similar law holds for "Thank you"s: Thank you UserA Thank you UserB Thank you UserA Thank you UserB Thank you UserA Thank you UserB Thank you UserA Thank you UserB etc. One variant of the Incompleteness Theorem states, that no puzzle is ever complete, there is always one piece of the puzzle that is missing. Again, to determine the missing piece, one can use the diagonal method: when one simply starts with one piece which is at an edge or in the corner, and moves diagonally across the puzzle, one will certainly find that a piece is missing.

    understanding of a system, how?
started by debu baba  3 yrs ago
It is a very basic question, but I have not got a satisfying answer to that yet. >>>>>>> Can we develop a thorough understanding of a system despite being a part of it?
Or, do we require an "outsider's" view. THe question not only relates to the understanding about a company, a society, a State, a country..and so on. It stretches to the scientific zeal for developing a clear idea about how the Universe functions. Opinions/explanations/elaborations invited regards

samundar posted Experiencing a system, how? on 3 yrs ago Hi debu: Its an excellent question- asked in simple words, so I would express my thoughts in simple words, not that I am aware of GODEL et all. If one intends to "understand" a system, your question as to how a "part" can understand the "whole", sounds valid. But, what if this "understanding" in its completeness, involves "experiencing" the system?

Also, we've found DEAD giant squids for a long time. We just hadn't seen any alive.

incompleteness theorem: Encyclopedia II - Cognitivism psychology - Criticisms of psychological cognitivism Cognitivism has been criticised in a number of ways. Phenomenologists and hermeneutic philosophers have criticised the positivist approach of cognitivism for reducing individual meaning to what they perceive as measurements stripped of all significance. They argue that by representing experiences and mental functions as measurements, cognitivism is ignoring the context (cf contextualism) and, therefore, the meaning of these measurements. They believe that it is this personal meaning of experience gained from the phenomenon as it is ex ...

In mathematical logic , G¶del's incompleteness theorems, proved by Kurt G¶del in 1931, are two theorems stating inherent limitations of all but the most trivial formal systems for arithmetic of mathematical interest. The theorems are also of considerable importance to the philosophy of mathematics . They are widely regarded as showing that Hilbert's program to find a complete and consistent set of axioms for all of mathematics is impossible, thus giving a negative answer to Hilbert's second problem . Authors such as J. R. Lucas have argued that the theorems have implications in wider areas of philosophy and even cognitive science , but these claims are less generally accepted.

    NSW comes to a close
This morning I got brunch with pernizzle and Alice at Le Peep! They still have the mini denver, which is still perfectly renee-sized. I finally *really* decorated my room, I distributed the French surveys for Tuesday :-) and met with JW for.. my future. I keep forgetting... the profs probably want their students to succeed, right? It's good not to just be doing everything on my own.
I did a complete 180 in the kitchen this evening, making this white wine/balsamic/somethin or other chicken with pasta, onions and tomatoes. Mmm :-) I got to work on my story as well, which I can't really *write* yet, since I'm still answering a bunch of logistic questions... one day I will dive in.
So my 'observant' theory was confirmed once again, as I was made aware of some office shenanigans that went down this summer. Those are never a good idea to initiate, no matter how romantic or dangerous it may seem... it's just not worth the emotional torment.
I finished up the evening watching Coffee and Cigarettes with Rohit, which was a series of vignettes in black and white with various actors, all very different and interesting. It made me crave coffee and cigarettes so bad... aahhh.. which reminds me, I still need to get my coffee maker working. Perhaps this evening :-D The neighbors were up til 3:45 or so, talking about vibrators [that's all I could remember], and I woke up with a strong desire to call the police. I feel bad.. it's nsw... but I still need my sleep!
