I'm inferring from your pointless and long lecture that my prior post touched a nerve. So what if qualia are a "thin thread" like I've said before, we are discussing almost nothing here, and that's something no matter how you try trivialize it out of existence.
... how are we ever to falsify "qualia?" ... The corollary question, if you can offer no such tests, is: why should we entertain the notion at all? As I pointed out to you quite a long time ago, Bill, there are two separable issues here: Emulations of human consciousness on something like modern computers, and supposition fields and the like in what passes for ordinary human mind/brains. Adult humans start with qualia, whether qualia "exist" or not (I don't necessarily agree with Ian that qualia exist but that's a separate issue).
How? I repeat:

What? How does that work? I for one don't believe it's in any way logical to conclude that there is a God, and I'm not the only one.
With regard to the topic, I remember reading an interview with Douglas Adams on the matter where he said he usually described himself as a "radical atheist" to try and indicate that yes, he really had thought this through and read up on the subject and no, he didn't want to have some nice but misguided fools from the local parish try to convert him. Well, quite. This was what I was driving at - I don't think it's possible to arrive at a definitive logical conclusion on the matter either way, therefore stating that using logic leads to believing in God is a bit daft.

If R is a member of itself, then by definition it must Mort here, yes and no, since both deal with the idea of "logical consistency" but in the omnipotent debate (IF) God it might be able to change logical consistencey but in set theory logical consistency is necessarily unadjustable.

It is a vast generalisation of Cayley's theorem from group theory (a group being a category with just one object). It allows the embedding of any category into a category of functors defined on that category. It also clarifies how the embedded category, of representable functors and their natural transformations, relates to the other objects in the larger functor category. It is an important tool that underlies several modern developments in algebraic geometry and representation theory. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoneda_lemma Part of the foundation of mathematics, Russell's paradox (also known as Russell's antinomy), discovered by Bertrand Russell in 1901, showed that the naive set theory of Frege leads to a contradiction. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell

World of Paradoxes!
A while ago Monark, a colleague of mine walked in, pooled in a few guys and waved this story. Situation : An individual is arrested for no rhyme or reason in a remote location and said he is going to be executed for venturing into a private territory. The exterminator said the victim that he can make a statement; if it happens to be true, he will be hung if not will be cut into pieces. Importantly, the same statement will be treated as his last wish as well. A few minutes were given to the victim to think. The smart arse jumps up and says – I am going to be sliced into pieces and die! The assassin is bewildered by the response. As you can see the statement could be true, in that case he has to be hung, however, it is his last wish, which means he needs to be cut into pieces.. The perplexed exterminator let him go.. Welcome to the world of Paradoxes!

Thelema - Will, actually
Thelemaway - Jul 16, 2007 - 07:54 AM
Post subject: Will, actually I join fora occasionally and frequently find myself wondering why even the most seemingly intelligent and pedantic of people insist on calling them forums; maybe it’s a technology thing.
Anyway, I often try to spark off threads (spark off fuses?) and then I get told I’m doing the wrong thing in the wrong place or everyone yawns and complains that they answered these questions before the dawn of time and that I am an ignorant upstart (which I knew already); or no one pays any attention.
Never one to be deterred by a smack in the mouth I have three simple questions I wish to pose. Everyone is invited – encouraged, even - to have a bash at answering them. I do not want links to articles. You may answer only one of the three, perm any two from three or try them all. In fact, do whatever you like. What I would like is a simple, one sentence reply to each question (with no semi-colons, please), though, as residents of LAShTAL you are probably all quite familiar with the concept of pleasing yourselves.
1) What is ‘love’?

Church of Google Forum Community General Discussion PDA View Full Version : Answer to the 9 questions December 11th, 2007, 10:20 AM Why does the universe need a reason to have been made?
Because that's what the physical part of the human mind requires in order to justify the existence of the material self.
What sanctioned your god making the universe?
Need of love (aka he was bored).
Can you prove that your god exists?
Yes, even if God doesn't need proof. It is sufficient to think about the limits the human conception of reality and metaphysical reality has. Those limits are imposed by rules created by a superior being that goes beyond simple-minded hypothesis expressed by man: God. Still not enough proof? Who made the laws of Universe? The fact that that matter is matter and nothing else proves that nature is designed by someone with unlimited intellect.
Why do we use the original 10 commandments rather than the replacements that God gave to Moses after Moses broke the tables containing them?
We are humans. We mistake. That's our job.

Debian's current interpretation of the DFSG:
All GPL'ed programs have to go to non-free.
Proof:
You are only allowed to distribute verbatim copies of the GPL license
text.
In Debian, documents are considered software and are therefore subject
to the DFSG.
Debian does not plan any exceptions from the DFSG for RFCs, license
texts or any other documentation. Debian will therefore have to move all GPL license texts to non-free. Section 1 of the GPL requires Debian to give every recipient of a GPL'ed work a copy of the GPL. Therefore, all GPL'd programs will have to go to non-free. Q.E.D.
