Carl Cori worked at the State Institute for Study of Malignant Diseases in Buffalo, New York, from 1922 to 1931, when he and Gerty Cori joined the faculty of Washington University in St Louis, Missouri. They received many honours, in most cases jointly. In 1947, for their research in enzymes the Coris shared the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine with the Argentine physiologist Bernardo Alberto Houssay .
