V roce 1960 byla Esakimu udìlena cena spoleènosti IBM (International Business Machines) za výzkum. Hned poté se stal jejím zamìstnancem a zaèal pracovat ve výzkumných laboratoøích v Yorktown ve státì New York. V USA si ponechal japonskou státní pøíslunost.
