Ok, so I've posted a few blog entries over the past few weeks only to find that they only show up on MY computer. Not so cool, but it happens. Apparently I'm using a "plug-in" that doesn't work well with the blog host. Oh well, problem solved, were back on the air (or ground, or whatever you want to call it). "Ok, so I'll try to get 3 months in one post. Realistically there isn't much to say other than we are dominating the season. It started in Calgary with a 2nd in 2-man and a victory in 4-man. Not a bad way to start the season. I was a bit worried going in to those races a lot of critics were saying that it was a fluke and that I wouldn't be able to maintain that standard. The last thing I wanted was to show up at the first race and totally flop, only to prove them right. Well, looks like they were wrong, really wrong. They can all kiss my rosey red cheeks.

Extractions: Schenectady Gazette reporter Kathy McGarry Muller, right, prepares for a swift ride down the ice of Mount Van Hoevenbergâs bobsled run during the winter of 1956. Text Size: A A A Kathy McGarry Muller heard the voice, high above the ice of Mount Van Hoevenberg. âNow approaching the finish curve,â it said, blaring from a public address system near the turns and straightaways of the mountainâs bobsled run. Muller couldnât do much more than listen. The Schenectady Gazette reporter had put away her notebook â and her fears â for 40 seconds of thrills and speed inside a fast-moving four-man bobsled. She had vivid memories of her cool trip during the winter of 1956. âI had the feeling my right shoulder was being pushed toward the ice-packed ground by the force of rounding the curve,â she wrote. âFor a fraction of a second, the sled felt as if it were riding upside down. We were 15 feet up.â Muller didnât need the complete routine. The 22-foot high bank at âShadyâ curve did not appeal to her. So she signed up for just the final half-mile of the bob run. It was quite enough.

It's been 18 years since the Jamaican bobsled team made its debut at the Olympics. Immortalized in the Disney movie Cool Runnings , the team has finished 29th, 34th, 14th, 21st, and 28th. An offspring of tobogganing, the modern-day sport of bobsledding was conceived in Switzerland late in the 1800s. Each nation may enter a maximum of two sleds in each event. The sleds are made of fiberglass and must adhere to strict size and weight restrictions. A driver steers the sled by pulling one rope with his right hand to go right or a separate rope with his left hand to go left. The second member of the two-person team is the brakeman. Always the last person in the sled, he or she pulls up on the brake, lowering a piece of metal into the ice to stop the sled after the run. To round out a four-man team a pair of pushers are added. They are responsible for helping to get the sled started.

Also, this design permits placing the sled closer together, which makes steering easie, and the pilot has a clear view over the heads of the passengers. Construction is relatively light without sacrifice of strength. The steering gear consists of a standard auto wheel mounted on a steel tube post having a cross arm welded on the lower end to which tie rods are bolted. The front sled turns on a ball and socket joint, permitting it to follow uneven contours without strain on the chassis. This joint consists of a king pin with an integral ball and collar, and a steel socket split and assembled with bolts. The ball and socket join taken from the radius rods of a model-T Ford can be adapted to this purpose. The sled runners are 14 inches apart and the rear sled is connected to the chassis with a long bolt through the eye bolts in the upper and lower cross members. Bobsled Plans
