It is played in a hockey rink , either indoors or outdoors, depending on climate and location. In a game of broomball there are two teams, each consisting of six players, a goaltender plus five others. The object of the game is to score more goals than your opponent. Goals are scored by hitting the ball into your opponent's net using your broom. Tactics and plays are similar to those used in sports such as ice hockey roller hockey and floorball Players hit a small ball around the ice with a stick called a 'broom'. The broom may have a wooden or aluminium shaft and has a rubber-moulded triangular head similar in shape to that of a regular broom. Players wear special rubber-soled shoes instead of skates, and the ice is prepared in such a way that it is smooth and dry to improve traction. Outside North America broomball is often mistaken for the sport of curling , possibly due to the 'broom' reference in the name, although the only similarities between the two are that they are both played on an ice surface.

Minnesota Hitmen Broomball Team - Richfield, MN A Class B broomball team based out of Bloomington, Minnesota that play in the Augsburg league and all major tournaments. Roster, pictures, awards http://www.hitmenbroomball.com/
Extractions: Tournament Co-MVP: Ann "Loafy" Flis and Craig "Long Ball" Ballensky The Hitmen wrapped up the 2007-2008 season on two high notes. They finished in the final four at the North Americans and took home a National Championship in co-rec. The Hitmen once again grew as an organization as they brought back some familiar faces like Kirk, James, Luke, Greg and Bing. They re-vamped Hitmen II and found a lot of success along the way. The new faces on the team are Jonathan Jaunty, Jeff Nitz, Josh Brehmer and Bud Bruggerman. They all made an immediate impact to help Hitmen II accomplish what it set out to do. They won the Bloomington Winter Fete tournament, won the Bloomington outdoor league and took 3rd in D state, an accomplishment that reclassified them to C next year. Pretty soon they will be playing at the upper level. Team Voodoo, a subsidiary team of the Hitmen, won the 2008 Co-Rec National Championships. This was a combination of the old Kamikazee team from 2000 and some new faces. Ann Flis and Craig Ballensky were named co-MVP of the co-rec team and Nicky Sneen was named Player of the Game twice. Team Voodoo started as underdogs and tied Superior Machine 2-2 in pool only to face them again in the championship. Ann made many great saves to keep voodoo in the championship game when Superior had the momentum. Craig scored late in the 2nd half behind the red line to seal the 4-2 victory. Great job to everyone! Players wear special padded sponge rubber shoes, use a ball which is sized somewhere between a soccer ball and slow pitch softball, and use specially designed manufactured brooms which are made of wood or aluminum. The goal like hockey is to put the ball in the opposing net, a net which is larger than a hockey net but much smaller than an outdoor soccer goal. WHO CAN PLAY ?
