And in pathauto, if you put [catpath] in your 'news' term settings, you get urls like ../news/goodnews and ../news/badnews

Kristen Galles will receive the money. She represented a group of women in the Grand Rapids area who sued the Michigan High School Athletic Association. The women felt their daughters were discriminated against because "high school girls' basketball and volleyball in Michigan were played in seasons opposite those of colleges and most other statesâ high schools." The lawsuit was filed in June 1998 and ended in April 2007.

Extractions: Search ChicagoSports.com Web enhanced by BEARS BLACKHAWKS BULLS CUBS ... MORE... Date: April 02, 2008 I had seen this before. I had seen it in December, 2001, when Naperville Central sophomore Candace Parker chose a layup over a dunk attempt in a holiday tournament semifinal game. The day before, she had made Illinois girls basketball history when she dunked in a game against Rockton Hononegah, and her decision not to try it again disappointed many spectators. In a recent NCAA tournament game, Parker again chose a lay-up over a dunk, this time as a star for Tennessee. This time the TV play-by-play announcer and analyst were clearly disappointed with her decision, portraying it as a blown opportunity. Forget about winning the game. Forget the fact that the layup was a sure thing and a dunk when you have just enough leaping ability to get the job done wasn't. Apparently Parker's main job here was to provide theatrics, not victory. It was the announcers who blew an opportunity to praise Parker and teach any young players watching the telecast that substance should trump style. Otherwise you get the boys game, where players too often blow dunks with outcomes still undecided.

Candace grew up in St. Louis where she was a shooting guard who was afraid to shoot for the Hazelwood East Lady Spartans. After a remarkable career on the bench, she decided to stick to journalism and graduated from Mizzou. She loves the pagentry of Friday night, the passion of the student-cheering sections and the pride in second and third-stringers. There's so much going on in high school sports so Candace hopes to find some great stories, even the ones about benchwarmers.

Extractions: or RSS file Posted March 23 at 4:26 pm by Mike Seely We like to have a lot of fun with Doug Christie on this blog (we're not alone), but today's NYT has an article on the rise of schoolboy hoops in the northwest, and flags Christie, among other Rainier Beach-bred pros, as being instrumental in setting up the AAU/summer league infrastructure to facilitate such a rise. It also namechecks Jim Marsh, George Karl, Gary Payton, Jama Crawford, Nate Robinson, Jo Jo Rodriguez, and Francis Williams. This is the sort of treatment we get now that SeaTimes alum Greg Bishop's byline is in the Gray Lady, I guess. Feels good.

Whether it be high school, college or even the NBA, only a tiny percentage of squads end their season with a victory. Today, only one high school basketball team in Section III retains a chance to finish its season on a winning note - the Jamesville-DeWitt boys (24-2), champions of Class A in the state NYSPHSAA (public school) tournament at Glens Falls last week.

Then it happened to us late last night. We posted a job opening on LinkedIn and within 24 hours the first blogs picked it up, did some research, and posted. True to their name, alarm:clock appeared to be first, although they got one fact wrong (it was VSNL that bought Teleglobe, not vice-versa). Mashable was up early on the story as well, and now Digg and company are starting to pepper it all over the web. LocalReplay.com has not been in complete "stealth mode" - we started a limited but public beta a couple months ago, but we have not done any PR or marketing, and were waiting to formally "announce" until we came out of beta. That's what we get for waiting, and now I know how and why this happens to so many startups. Lesson #10,000 or so that we've learned in the past couple months (will blog some of them one day if things calm down). So, what is LocalReplay? Well, go to
