The Kite Sailing Kitano Yacht designed by Stefani Krucke is a yacht with a kite instead of a sail. The wind blows relatively faster at high altitudes and thats the concept behind this yacht. The Kitano yacht benefits from the greater wind speeds found at higher altitudes, which raises the kite high enough to catch winds that might not even exist at the water level. Moreover, sailing in shallow water and littorals is possible without any risk, thanks to a hydraulically operated centerboard. The yacht can accommodate up to 8 passengers in sumptuous luxury. Even the eco-lovers are going to love the Kitano yacht as its totally eco-friendly. via YankoDesign Gizmodo Tags: Kite Sailing Kitano Yacht Stefani Krucke Lifestyle ... Extractions: skip to main skip to sidebar "If you do something, do it in style" EMAIL: wacondah (at) gmail.com Several companies around the world are experimenting with wind-assisted ships, which would reduce fuel consumption at a time where fuel can represent up to 60 percent of the running costs of operating a ship. But another goal is to reduce pollution: the toxic emission volume of the world trade fleet is roughly equivalent to the U.S. one today. In "The new age of sail," New Scientist describes a ship that will be partially pulled by a high-tech kite flying at an altitude of up to 500 meters where winds are more stable than at sea level. The German designers, who tested a prototype last year, estimate that such a hybrid sailing ship would see a 50 percent reduction of its fuel consumption. Danish and Japanese companies are also designing wind-assisted ships. Wind junkies beware, there is a new sailing discipline out there that might just force your wallet open, rearrange your life's priorities, and produce a little friction on the homefront. But don't worry, those few nights you might have to spend on the couch will be worth it, I can assure you. Kite-sailing (or kite-surfing) has arrived on the scene and is causing quite a disturbance in the households of windsurfers, wakeboarders, and small-boat sailors alike. Because they use a large kite to harness the wind, kite-surfers can enjoy the rush of speed sailing, the freedom of wakeboarding without a boat, and the ability to fly higher than any wind-surfer has dreamed of jumping. And because these kites fly well above the water, they're less subject to the inter-medium friction that bedevils boats and windsurfers. But that's not the only plus. Due to their small size, the kites (when packed) and the relatively small boards are really convenient as onboard toys. And kite sailors can travel with their

The ice punched a hole in the 246-foot, 2400-tonne liner, which began taking on water, forcing the 100 passengers and 54 Explorer crewmembers to flee aboard life rafts. All onboard managed to escape completely safe and uninjured, while the 38-year-old Explorer sank about 15 hours later. First launched in 1969 at the Nystad yard in Finland, MV Explorer was the worldâs first purpose built expeditionary passenger vessel. Reports say that a calm in Antarctic seas and the swift response of the passing Norwegian ship were instrumental in saving all aboard the famous liner. UK-based Kitano Kite Sailing Company has recently designed a prototype for a yacht able to be brought to planing speed by a kite.

"" The development of modern day kitesurfing by the Roeselers in the USA and the Legagnoixs in France carried on in parallel to buggying. Bill Roeseler, a Boeing aerodynamicist, and his son Corey Roeseler patented the "KiteSki" system which consisted of water skis powered by a two line delta style kite controlled via a bar mounted combined winch/brake. The KiteSki was commercially available in 1994. The kite had a rudimentary water launch capability and could go upwind. In 1995, Corey Roeseler visited Peter Lynn at New Zealand's Lake Clearwater in the Ashburton Alpine Lakes area, demonstrating speed, balance and upwind angle on his 'ski'. In the late 1990s, Corey's ski evolved to a single board similar to a surfboard.[1]
