SNO-RAY - Snow-Bike And Skibob Origins It would be easy to describe a SnowBike as a Bicycle with the wheels replaced by skis, but in reality, a Snow-Bike is actually quite different. http://www.snoray.com/history.html
Extractions: What is a Snow-Bike? It would be easy to describe a Snow-Bike as a Bicycle with the wheels replaced by skis, but in reality, a Snow-Bike is actually quite different. Basically, a Snow-Bike consists of a steerable frame assembly fitted with a saddle, suspension system, handlebars and a pair of in-line skis. The rider sits astride the snow-bike, just like on a bicycle, but the seating position is much closer to the ground, and rather than pedals, the rider wears a short pair of foot skis to assist with their balance. Snow-bikes come in various shapes and sizes, and have evolved significantly since their invention in the late 1940's. A modern Snow-bike bears very little resemblance to one of the original skibob designs, as is dramatically shown on the Skibob History pages "Snow-Bike" is the modern name for what started life as a

In that time, it seems that I have come down with a cold: congestion, sneezing and wheezing. What's with that Just in time for Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving EVERYONE! I have 4 days off work!!! After spending 4.5 hours of testifying for a fraud case on Tuesday, I NEED A BREAK FROM WORK!!! My new wheels are finished. 1.5 inches wide, downhill rims but also used here for riding in snow. Wider rim + lower pressure = more squared tire = larger footprint = more floatation on snow. Everything was going smoothly to get them on my Kona winter bike. The cassette came off the original freehub fairly easy, I didn't have to round up any extra muscle to get it off. I got it mounted on the new wheel and then started working on realigning the chainline, the cassette is a seven speed and the new freehub is for a 9 speed so I had to add spacers. The cassette is now further out than it was so adjustments to both derailleurs and the high and low screws. I got it all shifting smoothly, the brakes adjusted for the new rims...ready to go except for the tires mounted on the rims....

Extractions: Gizmodo Gadgets This conceptual design easily falls into the category of coolest damn thing of the year. This motorcycle is equipped with tank-esque treads to turn it into an all-terrain mobile. This design was created by Germans, Oliver Keller and Tillamn Schlootz, for the 2006 Michelin Challenge Design. The Hyanide is also capable of making sharp and fast turns with a advanced turning system that bends the entire frame of the bike to properly make turns. For the guts, the Hyanide is powered by a 60hp 500cc liquid-cooled single cylinder engine that could product a top speed upwards of 85 mph. It currently only exists as a one-fifth scale, non-functional, model. Surely there is a company out there willing to tackle this revolutionary idea. Honda, anyone? Team Velveeta™: Leadville Snow Bike Race You have to try this to know what it s like. Racing in the snow is another flavor of kick in the pants. This time of year, bikey people like me often can http://teamvelveeta.blogspot.com/2008/01/leadville-snow-bike-race.html
Extractions: There was some snow-packed road, but the real contest was the snow-machine tracks. Any incline and I was walking, as was anyone else I saw out there. Level ground was sometimes rideable, sometimes just a staggering slog. The downhills were a hoot. The bike won't go straight. It just will not. As you pick up speed the front wheel wiggles all over the place. Arms and shoulders get very tired wrangling with the handlebars, balance muscles get a workout too. Sometimes things go supercritical and you wind up pointing off the track, and that means the whole front of the bike dives deep into the soft snow and you follow it there.
